You need to replace the catalitic converter. If you try to weld it the heat will destroy the interior anyway.

Mazda 2008 mx5: I am getting engine fumes coming into the cabin via the cabin air intake.

There are a couple of things to consider...

First the cabin air intake is generally in a tray that once the engine compartment hood or bonnet is closed should be almost completely isolated from the engine compartment due to the rubber sealing strip and other rubber components. Perhaps some of these are missing or in poor condition. If heater intake water drains are fitted they should be self closing...

In good condition normal smells or fumes should not get past those seals.

The other consideration is where are the fumes coming from? Unless the engine has an exhaust or oil leak or a breather problem the amount of fumes generated to leak into the cabin, even if the sealing isn't in good order, should be minimal.

Why exhaust fume come in car

Could be a leaking gasket where the pipe or manifold connects to the engine. The fumes would come in thru the vents.

Fumes in 2000 Toyota Sienna

On the dash there is a switch/lever that allows you to select fresh outside air or recirculate the air in the cab. Any smell may be coming in the freash air position which would allow smelly air from the engine to come into the car. Check for broken flexible exhaust piece or leaking gaskets around the cat converter to start with or a hole in the exhaust pipe inself

Loss of power check engine light

is the check engine light on ! if so it may be a clogged up convertor. here is the symtoms, A clogged catalytic converter reduces the flow of a vehicle's exhaust by creating a constricted and/or blocked exhaust channel, which engine exhaust gases flow through on their way out of a vehicle's tail pipe. By reducing the flow of exiting engine exhaust gases, a condition that creates an increase in engine exhaust back pressure (thereby reducing engine efficiency), a clogged catalytic converter results in a small reduction in engine horsepower. A clogged catalytic converter causes a reduction in vehicle gas mileage.
Fumes leaving exhaust is sulfurous as if it is coming from a rotten-egg is one of the unmistakable clogged catalytic converter symptoms. good-day !

Myvw polo keeps cutting out lots of fibres coming out off rear pipe

The fibres coming out of the tail pipe would be the glass wool coming out of a muffler which is breaking apart internally. Whether this is the reason for the engine cutting out is difficult to say. It is possible that the glass wool is restricting the exhaust to the extent that you are not getting sufficient evacuation of your burnt gasses or it is upsetting some of the sensors. Have the muffler problem attended to and see if that makes a difference to the engine operation, and then take it from there. If you find this helpful, please rate the solution.

I got a 1999 gmc sonoma 4.3 v6 vortec I have strong exhaust fumes coming threw the a/c vents while the a/ is on

You have a leak in the exhaust system. Have it looked at soon. You don't want to be breathing carbon monoxide while driving. If you hear a "ticking" sound while the engine is running (more predominant with a cold engine) it's most likely an exhaust manifold leak, either a bad gasket, broken stud or cracked manifold. Other possible causes could be the "donut" gaskets that seal the Y pipe to the exhaust manifolds, the Y pipe to catalytic converter gasket (if equipped).

Seems to be oil in the fumes and some time lack of power

If you mean in the exhaust pipe, fumes is coming out together with oil then it is most probably engine oil leaking into the combustion chamber. It could be a head gasket or an oil seal somewhere...Check if your engine oil requires top up on a regular basis, if that is the case then it is definitely a leak somewhere but it is hard to pin point from where. Hope this helps.

Rear oil leak that's getting on the catalytic converter it cause's a little flam and lots off smoke. don't know where it's coming from but need it to stop flaming up and smoke bad.

check if oil leak comes from engine or transm. , generally if oil drops on catalyc , is the rear cranck engine seal, between engine-transm.

Engine fumes leaking into car compartment through the ventilation system - how can I fix this problem ?

The main thing you will need to do is to minimise the amount of 'excessive' engine fumes being generated in your engine compartment which in turn will 'leak' into your car compartment: 1) Degrease your engine and check for leaking oil gaskets especially around the oil refill area: oil leaks at the back of the engine falling on your hot exhaust pipes and on your engine block will generate lots and lots of 'nasty' smelling fumes! 2) Check that your exhaust pipes joints are well sealed especially the one contained within the engine compartment: taking great precautions, check for the obvious leaks from smoke emitted but you could use soapy water to assist. 3) Check that the lining in your engine compartment are in good condition taking particular attention to the 'Firewall' ones (e.g. the one between the engine compartment and the passenger side compartment). 4) Check for broken heating/cooling air hoses leading into the passenger compartment.
Hope it helps!
