ok, sounds like you covered the basics with spark. I would check in this order; 1-Throttle position sensor, sometimes it wears out and you get poor signal back to computer, 2-clean MAF sensor, 3-check/clean IAT (intake air sensor). If this still doesn't help then I would check your fuel flow....but i'm thinking its your tps. Two screws will change that out quickly.
If it won't start, then pumping the gas and using carb cleaner may make it worse. Carb cleaner is not the same as starting fluid. It will make the engine harder to start. If it's flooded, then pumping the gas will only flood it more. If you need to de-flood, then press the accelerator pedal ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR and HOLD it there while cranking. Don't pump it. Have you looked at the top of the carburetor while someone cranks the engine? Does the choke close when you press the accelerator for the first (and only) time? You state that you replaced the choke; do you mean the electric choke spring? Is it adjusted correctly? You need to know the choke setting for it to work properly. Then again, it may have nothing to do with the choke. Do you have spark at the plugs? Have you checked the fuel filter?
hello unless your car is a diesel fuel it does not have an accelerator thermal sensor....to me your concern sounds like a fuel pump or a fuel regulater....As for your catalytic convertor your not suppose to clean them period who ever charged you for that I would get your money back they have to be replaced they can not be cleaned also you have to replace your o2 sensor when you change your ....cats...sorry that they were dishonest ...but i hope i helped you out ..write back if you have any more questions..ty
I am having the same problem but it only happens to me when the car engine is cold. This does not happen when the car has been on for a while. My solution is that I warm up the car for about 20 minutes before driving and my car works fine.
Added to my problem, when I press the gas, it asks like it's choking and I have to press through it, flooring the gas, to which it accelerates too much. It's ok when no in traffic. Also, when I stop the car idles really low and acts like it wants to shut off.
go under the hood and manually move the accelerator to see what is binding it.
If you dont know how to do this then get an assistant to press on the accelerator (car does not have to be on) and whatch for the part that moves as he accelerates. Manually move this to find the binding. Please note that it is possible to have binding with in the cable assembly back to the foot pedal.
when you press the gas can you hear the engine accelerate if you can then that means it is your transmission if you cant it is your gas cable linkage just snap you can just replace it by removing your engine cover then add a small nut and tie it to the end of your gas linkage strech it in to the plastic arm and you can then use it to take to your mechanic to fix it properly
It probably has a carburetor. You have to press the accelerator to set the choke. Sometimes, when it is cold, you have to press several times to spray gas into the engine in order for it to start. This is normal for a car with no fuel injection.
