Yes the crankshaft position sensor can cause all these problems at once. they are fairly simple to change and not a really expensive part if you want to check it though you can unplug it and hook a multimeter to it and check ohms as someone cranks the engine. should see a square wave as in 0 ohs to infinity ohms and repeat.

I don't think that a crankshaft position sensor would affect the fuel pump.

"No spark" could be a crankshaft position problem, but one would think that the engine would throw an ultra-serious error code and all sorts of red alarms would come up telling you a serious error code has happened.

After all, the whole engine timing would be affected and serious damage or a fire could occur.

I think I'd do a little more troubleshooting first -- starting with the fuel pump. Working backwards from the pump you will eventually get back to the ignition switch.

The missing spark should head you back to the ignition switch as well. That is not to say that the ig switch is necessarily bad, but it is a common thread between both problems.

The reason I'd suggest to look at the fuel pump first is that, given your description of the problem, the fuel pump would be easier to follow, and it is very seldom that more than one thing goes wrong at a time unless there was a traumatic event.

So, you will likely find that whatever is causing the fuel pump not to work will also be causing the no spark.

For example, if the ig switch loses contact to the ignition circuit when it is turned to the START position, then the starter would turn, but the car/ignition system would "think" that the key was off.

good luck

Yes, definitely. If you have some mechanical knowledge you should be able to change it yourself. If not, your Kia people should be able to do it at a very reasonable price.( less than £100)

Sounds like a possible crankshaft position sensor. It is located behind the harmonic balancer, inside the timing cover. It sets by the timing belt, so if you have a loose timing belt it could hit the crank sensor or throw up pieces of itself onto the crank sensor. A bad crank sensor can mimic a fuel pump issue. 721c6cee-d9f3-4086-a166-f472fa0318af.gif

Why won't my new fuel pump in my 2002 kia sedona pump even though it's getting juice from the battery

Have you checked the injector rail with a gauge to know for sure the injectors are not getting fuel ?
If the pump is running but not pumping fuel I would think it is a clogged filter or screen in the tank.

I have a 2002 Kia Sedona. The check engine light

YOU NEED TO SCAN IT.TO SEE WHAT CODE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING UP WITH.IT COULD BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON TRANSMISSION REMAINING LOCK UP OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR.IF YOU REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP.YOUR FUEL FILTER WILL CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM IF ITS STOPPED UP.

2004 Kia Sedona keeps stalling

Your problem sounds like you have a bad crankshaft position sensor. You will not get a trouble code (check engine light). This will cause the vehicle to suddenly stall. You cannot change the idle on this vehicle, or any FI modern vehicle contrary to a previous post. It is controlled by the engine management computer by way of an idle air control circuit on the throttle body.

Vehicle suddenly turns off when stopped. Some puttering heard.

Maybe the mass airflow sensor, this is hard to diagnose sometimes. But this could also be a fuel delivery problem as well, such as the fuel filter,or the fuel pump.I would get the tuneup first though, just to rule it out if it needs it.

Kia sedona won't start

Turn key to on position and listen for fuel pump to turn on, if not check fuel pump fuse and relay. May also be crankshaft sensor. Maybe not getting any spark.
