Question about 1992 Chevrolet Astro Extended

AntiLock Brakes The ABS light stays on and the antilock system is not functioning. Is this located under the master cylinder and what needs to be done for repair?

    When the ABS stopped working, while applying the brakes, the brakes made a pop and the pedal went to the floor before returning back. The brakes worked normally from then on except the ABS.

Probably broken wires on the sensors on your brakes, or dirty sensors. Very typical.

    In that case i would guess your brake pressure modulator valve has gone. I'm not sure if it's under the dash, or under the hood on your van.

New hub and abs light come on when turning or hit bumps


The brake sensors. Cars with antilock brakes have an amber or yellow warning light, which usually says ABS. If this light stays illuminated after the bulb check, it indicates a problem with the antilock braking system. The ABS controller will disable the system and your brakes should function as if you don't have ABS. In this case, you can safely drive the car to a mechanic for service.

If both the RED brake light and the ABS light are coming on while you are driving the car, you either have an hydraulic failure or there is a problem with your ABS module that can potentially affect your regular service brakes.

The first thing to do would be to check the fluid level in your brake master cylinder. If it is low, you need to find out WHY. There is always a reason for the fluid level to be low. It is NOT SAFE to just add fluid without correcting the problem that caused the fluid level to be low.

If the fluid level is OK, then you must scan your antilock brake module for fault codes. The antilock brake module controls the antilock light and can affect the RED brake light as well. There are many different possible failures that can cause this. There is NO OTHER WAY to know why the antilock module has turned the light on. You can spin your wheels for days, replace a BUNCH of parts and never find the problem if you do not scan the module first.

My ABS ligth stays on but my brakes work fine.


The ABS system is related to emergency stopping, not normal brake use, where you don't want the tires to lock-up when the brakes are hit very hard. ABS stands for Antilock Brake System. When the ABS light is on, the ABS system is not active. This means the ABS will not be Antilock when you need it. This does not mean you don't have brakes. The brakes you have are normal brakes without the added feature of antilock.

The light is on because a system fault has been detected. Most of the time this is a wheel speed sensor that has failed. Basically the system works by having 4 wheel speed sensors connected to a control unit. The control unit determines how much braking presure each wheel needs according to how much pedal presure you are applying, related to the vehicle speed, and the rotation speed of each wheel. If one wheel is spinning slower than the others that would mean it is locking up (less braking efficientcy) and the control unit then reduces the presure applied to that wheel so it doesn't lock up.

If a wheel speed sensor goes bad the entire system can't function so it shuts down and it is now a regular braking system. This means that it will work and feel fine to you, the operator. But in an emergancy, the ABS will not function and the brakes may lock up which is not as efficient as ABS.

I recommend you get it scanned for codes and find out what is wrong. It is a great safty feature that I think you are better off with, than without.

Some auto parts stores will scan your car for codes for free, like autozone and others. Call around and find that free scan. Then take it to a reputable shop, dealer, or your brother-in-law who is a master mechanic.

Good question, on the antilock system is a bleader too and bleade it the same way you bleade the caliper. After all is done adjust the rear brakes, they should have a drag to them.

Hello. This indicates that you have a bad sensor or a problem with the antilock braking system [ABS]. If your brakes no longer pump themselves when you make a quick stop you know that the antilock braking system is not working. If they still pump, the problem is more likely in sensor to the ABS system. Joe

do u have the antilock brake bleeding tool? if not you will need to have the dealer bleed the brakes, the ABS control valve must be electricaly held open to bleed the brakes there of course is a special tool for this.

1998 GMC Yukon ABS light stays on from start to off the engine


Hello,
It sounds like the wheel speed sensor may have been damaged in the process of removing the tire. That would cause the abs light to come on. Ususaly when the abs light comes on it is a sign they won't opperate as abs but only as standard hydraulic brakes. I hope this helps. Abs light stays on


It sounds like you have a bad sensor on one of the wheels.Sometimes you can take the veh to autozone or advanced auto parts and they can hook it up to thier scanner and tell you which one is bad(they do this for free) if they have an abs scanner.
