SOURCE: battery does not hold charge

You have a short at one of your systems. It#s sometimes difficult to find such a "electrical gremlin"... I've searched one week and dismounted the whole interior... try to check some systems for a short as follows: connect a Ampere meter for this checks. First try to remove fuses out of the power distribution center right in engine compartment. Do this step by step, one fuse, if fine, fuse back, next fuse and so on.. if you find the main system with the short, do the same with the fuses in dashboard, passenger side how connected with this main circuit. If you've located the circuit with the short, check the whole wiring system related to this circuit till you get him. ..or.... let a specialist check your car. Good Luck!

SOURCE: My 1983 CJ8 has a new battery and a new alternator but still only sends out 12 volts on the voltage meter. The battery does not charge, what's wrong?

Does the battery light work in the dash? Do you have 12 volts to the stator (often marked "S") wire at the alternator when the key is turned on? If no light system will not charge.

SOURCE: does jeep nwrangler (1998) 4.o litre with air have a voltage reulator that if bad would stop alternator from putting charge into battery? and where is voltage regulator located?

All alternators have voltage regulators. Depnding on type and age the regulator will be in different locations. Most modern ones have the reg. inside the ALT. Older ones it's outside. Those with built-in ones also differ. Bosch and Lucas - you can remove the REG without opening the alternator. Mitsubishi - you hhave to open the alterntor. onfirm the alternator type and the post can help you better.

Altinator is over charging

its likely you have a bad voltage regulator , its
inside the alternator , normally you replace it as a unit ,
unless your adept enough to dissasemble it ,
and replace the regulator alone.

Where is the voltage regulator on a 99 mercury cougar?

The voltage regulator is a part of the alternator. If you are having pulsating issues then look for grounding issues like a corrided eyelet or loose grounding bolts.

Cougar 1999 lights flicker after changing alternator have 14.7 volts on output

Voltage regulator is not doing its job, and it is allowing excessive voltage into the circuit. If you do not address this problem, some light bulbs and LEDs might start to burn out. Either replace the voltage regulator, or modify the circuit between alternator and regulator to match later model cougars, where this problem was solved.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

1991 Dodge 4x4 truck altinator will not charge, new altinator, all fuses are good and serkets. Altinator will not charge.

Change voltage regulator. Does the battery take a charge from a charger? If not, replace battery. If it does, then regulator is faulty. If still nothing, return alternator to place of purchase, and have it checked.

Alternator will not charge ,has new alt

If your car is equipped with one, have the external voltage regulator, or regulator module checked, usually mounted on the inner fender well on passenger side.
Even with a new alternator, if the regulator is bad, it will not charge.
