We replaced the master cyclinder on a 2005 Ford Taurus self and also replaced two rear brake lines and we rebleed the brakes one minute you have brakes and the padle is hard and then the next minute when you take the far down the road the padle go's to floor and the car wont stop

If you start the car ,leave it in park,push on the brake pedal very gently,
if it slowly fades, the master cyl. is bad.
If not,has to be air,just take the master cyl. cap off,and open a bleeder,let gravity do the rest(rears first) takes awhile but all the air comes out. Pumping the brakes to bleed tends to "whip"air bubbles into the system,

most of the time the auto parts can give you the right length.but if i had to gess your looking at 6to 7 feet long 8 ft at the most. it would be a good i dear to re place the line going to each wheel to . because those will be the next one to go good luck

SOURCE: Power brakes not working

No such thing as vacuum lines to the master cylinder. You do have a vacuum line on the brake booster (power assist). When you step on the pedal do you hear a whoosing sound down by your pedal. This is a leaking Booster. Needs replacement.

When you step on the brake does the engine rpm change. This is a leaking check valve (one way air valve).

There is a special tool required to bleed the brakes, it plugs into the ABS hydraulic control under the hood and holds the ABS valves open to remove the trapped air during bleeding, u will need to have the dealer bleed the brakes, they are most likely the only ones that will have this special too, but u can try an outside shop, I am sure Snap on tools makes this tool in the aftermarket tool catagory..

Brakes go to floor i changed master,4 calipers,4 brake hoses, and all pads


Time to redo the bleeding of the system again...starting with the master cylinder...you do not have to remove the master to re-bleed it. disconnect both brake lines from the master, and start again by pushing pedal to floor, and rebleed each line at the master...this is critical to work properly...you mentioned new master cylinder, if remanufactured I would return it. As noted above, after confirming the master is fully bled...rebleed each caliper beginning with the rear, farthest away from the master...you must have "air" in the brake lines. Hope this helps.

Why do brakes go to floor but still have light pressure?


It sounds like you have air in your brake lines. This is usually caused by a very low brake fluid in the master cyclinder.
To fix this problem fill up the master cyclinder with brake fluid and bleed the front wheel brake cyclinders until the air bubbles are removed. Keep the master cyclinder topped up with brake fluid. Then bleed the rear wheel brake cyclinders until the air bubbles are removed. Don't forget to top up the brake fluid in the master cyclinder.

if master replaced sounds like air still in lines rebleed the brake lines start with passenger rear than driver rear -pass front -than driver front last..before bleeding check rear brake shoes are adjusted correctly

the master cyclinder is divided into diagonal wheels. meaning that each line from the master cyclinder provides fluid to a front wheel and rear wheel. on the front resevoir of the master cyclinder it would be perhaps the left front and right rear brake for example. you need to block the lines going to the rear wheels independently and then bleed the brakes again starting with the wheel furthest from the master cyclinder.

Make sure the rear brakes are adjusted and also make sure there are no leaks. if there are no leaks then you have air in the system or a bad mastercylinder, rebleed the brakes, have someone inside pumping the pedal three times every time, then start at the right rear wheel and bleed it four times, each time have them pump pedall three times and hold it down, then go to left wheel and do the same then the right front then left front. to make sure you dont run master dry top off the fluid after every wheel, then adjust the rear brakes, and after that if pedal is low replace the master but you may just have air in the system, and make sure there are no leaks on any line. hope this helps.

1992 Ford F350 Dually Diesel Truck Brake System problem.


Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.
