Yes they do but I would rather think you have a bad battery cabe connection to the system, sometimes the battery cable corrudes and you can't see it try replacing the cable ends and the connector ends espically if they are by the battery.

SOURCE: car won't start after disconnecting battery to replace alternator

Are you sure you have the battery connected right, Red to + Black to -? The connections are tight? Are sure the new batery is good? I've seen that happen before where the battery is new but dead. Try jumping it from another car or put that battery in another car and see if it starts that car. If you have a voltmeter check the battery, it should be about 12.8 volts, then check while trying to start the car the voltage shoudn't drop below 10 volts.

Check flywheel teeth. Might be missing some teeth on the flywheel. Remove starter and you should be able to see flywheel. Turn flywheel and check all teeth.

SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Camry won't crank

Check the ground cable going from the battery to
alternator, then to chassis. Make sure there is no
rust at the chassis ground wire terminal, and that it
is very tight. The fusible link will be off the alternator
red power cable, usually, but not 100% on that car.
Good luck.

Check the batter voltage first. If not that check fuse panel under hood for a 100 amp fuse check to see if the fuse is bad or if it has power. Also check fuseable link wire at starter to see if wire is still good. If it is bad, internal short possible on starter, take out and test it. Replace fusible link.

Battery doesn't charge

It doesn't affect the charging. Have your alternator tested. If it is good, check connections between alternator and battery, and check all fuses.

Double check the battery positive connection wiring carefully as it commonly has connection problems when the battery is changed.

1994 8 cylinder van is overcharging. Could it be a fuse?

Usually, if a vehicle is overcharging, it is usually an issue between the battery and the alternator. I suggest having the alternator tested first. Also, check to ensure the battery terminals are clean and secure, as well as on the starter (positive) and the chassi or engine block (ground). Also ensure that the wiring harness plugged in to the alternator is clean and securely plugged in as well. Unplug it and inspect the inside - there may be a "residue" which his a protective grease put on during manufacturing of the vehicle, to help prevent wear from weather, and use. If all these connections are good, then proceed to have the alternator and even the battery tested for proper charging. And yes, it would be a good ideas to check all fuses related to the battery, ignition, and start: these would include, the starter relay (under hood, near battery in black fuse/relay box),. starter/ignition fuse, in fuse box under dash, or in glove compartment (in some vehicles), as well as any ACC fuses in the fuse box, if installed.

Dash dsnt come on/ wnt strt

Dead battery possibly. However, check all connections first on both the battery, pos and neg - as well as the negative on the chassi or block (wherever it's grounded) and the starter.

If these are all good - try jump starting the car. If it start, disconnect the battery (both terminals) and if it stays running the alternator is still good. If it dies, the alternator needs repalced, as well as the battery.

When an alternator starts to lose (or quit holding) it's charge, the battery becomes the main source of power. The battery purpose is to supply power to the starter at starting point, then to all electrical components. The alternator simply keeps the battery charged. So, without a good alternator, then goes the batter after about 3-5 starts and drives.

Also, as a safe measure check all fuses and relays. See my tip on how to test relays.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
