Take the alternator to an auto electrician and have him explain which terminals you use. Ask him if it is internally regulated or needs an external regulator as there are marked differences as to how it is wired up.

Mg metro alternator

Only needs two wires, run a 40 amp cable from the large terminal on the alternator marked +, direct to the positive terminal on the battery or to the battery supply feed to the starter (which ever is easier). Then run a wire from the terminal marked 'ind' to a 5watt bulb, other side of the bulb needs to be wired to an ignition live feed. That's makes it the charge indication light. You need to fit this light, without it the alternator will not charge!!!! Light will come on when you switch the ignition on, and go out when the engine is started. Put a volt meter across the battery, should get a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts with engine running. Good Luck.

Missing the wires that go to the alternator

Both wires are red. 10 ga wire runs from Battery + terminal to Batt.
terminal on alternator.
Smaller wire routes 2 different ways.
On V8, runs through cluster to L terminal on alternator.
On V6 runs through cluster to PCM terminal 16B-- comes out from
terminal 35B to L terminal on alternator

7.3 Liter Diesel starts hard in morning, ok if not left more than 8 hours. How to check the Glow Plugs?

Your glow plug relay is located on the top of the engine on the right side toward the front. Some models there are 2 solenoids. A large one toward the front and a smaller one right behind it. The glow plug relay is the smaller one toward the rear. The larger front one is the intkae heater relay. To test the glow plug relay turn engine to on. dont start it. both of the large terminals should have power with key on. then turn engine off. only one large terminal should have power. If when you turn engine to on you only have power on one side then go to this test. Turn engine on and test smaller wire. it should have power. If it does replace the relay. If the smaller wire does not have power you have an ignition problem or power (wiring) problem to the relay. Also note the engine needs to be cold. If temp of engine is over 130 the computer will not turn the glow plug circut on! Most of th time this is what fails and not your glow plugs.

How do i connect the starter

Hi bladebrown:

There will be 2 connections to make. Make sure the ground terminal of the battery is disconnected before you start. there will be a large wire (should be red) that comes from the battery. This wire is connected to the large terminal on the starter. This terminal will have a large nut to tighten down on the wire lug. It will be size 1/2 inch or 7/16 inch. The 2nd wire is a much thinner wire and will go to the second smaller terminal that has a smaller nut. It really hard to get them mixed up because you could hardly get the smaller wire on the bigger terminal.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh PS please leave a rating if appropriate. Thanks

I need a wiring diagram for the alternator on my 1984 gmc jimmy

I don't have the wiring diagram, but here is how it is wired, the large red lead bolts to the insulated stud on the back of the alternator, the other 2 smaller wires are to the "D" connector, go to a good parts store like NAPA or CAR QUEST and ask for a repair connector for your alternator, it will be a stub connector with 2 wires in it, just splice it to the old wires and plug it in, one wire is bigger than the other so it's hard to screw that up. Any further questions just post a new message. Go to it and lets drive!
