Transmission problome on 91 subaru loyale

It shift all right from 1st too 2 but gets sloppy in third till Roma get high but no 4th gear at all why is that

Bad 3-4 solenoid, or burnt clutch band due to low fluid level. The solenoid is about a $70 part.

the neutral safty switch tells the comp. what gear is in. when its not working the light wont move and the car will not go threw the gears prop. the switch is nown to go out. it is located on the tranny or down under the shifter

SOURCE: E40d trans will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear, only rev. 1+2

check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine

The Pacifica will not shift past 4th gear. It shifts normally through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. Their is no high reeving RPS, no clunking, no lurching. It will just not shift past 4th gear.


is there an OD button that might have been pressed .if it has lots of miles on it it could be needing a flush job . last one I got done was around 100.00 at jiffy lube.

1990 subaru shifts fine when cold and then when hot will not shift out first gear


check the oil level in the transmission as there may be insufficient / too much oil for correct operation of the transmission . There may also be a leak in a line or plug that was not tightened properly

91 subaru loyale. My right front parking brake does not disengage. I have to do it by hand. Is there a spring or something that needs replacing?


there is an adjustable cable attached too the parking brake follow it find it adjust the cables till their of equal lengths or dont stick...mines under the change holder

My 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Automatic with 84K miles. It winds when I put it in reverse and I think I only have 1st and 2nd gear. Additionally it revs high, like over 3000 rpm, delays and then eventually...


It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

Shifting problems on my 2000 Subaru Legacy Wagon. 4th Gear slips out, won't hold in at all. 3rd grinds when I shift it into gear, but slides in w/o the noise if I let the car slow down for a couple...


I would buy a used Trans and fix the other one over time. That way you can take it apart and it might not take a lot of money to fix it. Then you can sell it or save it. Also you may look at the different trans to put in yours. Maybe a Legacy GT 6 speed. Good luck and have a great day.

Its 2 wheel drive, but the transmission won't shift unless you manuallyl put the gear shifter in low then work your way up to get the gears to change. The gears work fine it just won't change on its on. If...


Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under-hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2


  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.

Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.
