Sorry about the lack of info, this is where i'm at now.The '98 jeep failed to start in the morn trying to go to work. Haynes manual has me looking at power control module (PCM) or the Crankshaft Position Sensor(error codes P1388 and P0320) with my testing it looks like the PCM is OK and the sensor is bad. Would the bad sensor give me an error code showing a bad PCM that will clear up when I replace the sensor? I would also like to know if a sensor and PCM from a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee will interchange? Everything is the same except the '98 is a 4wd. I appreciate any info you can give me.

The '95 Jeep has the older style connectors, the male prongs are round about the size of a large sewing needle the prongs on the '98 are flat about an 1/8 inch wide. I don't know if that makes a difference, but the color code is the same and the sensors themselves look identical.

Did it quit while you were driving, or when you tryed to start it cold, or when it was hot? Did it backfire or just shut off? Throw us a bone here.

I'm sure that sensor will work. As long as it plugs in the same.

Nobody has messed around with the ignition timing in any way?

If it has stood for a long time(i.e years..) the fuel may have degraded to the point that it\'s useless.

The carbs will smell of fuel, but are you sure that fuel is being pumped to them in sufficient quantity? Try disconnecting a fuel line, crank the engine a few revolutions to see if fuel is pumped out.

Try gravity feeding the carbs. Use a can of fuel connected to the carbs, held above the engine. Get somebody to crank the engine and see if it fires up. If the engine fires up, suspect the fuel pump.. or fuel lines.

An air leak can also cause non-starting. The usual cause is the inlet manifold gasket. Any air leaking through the gasket can cause your non-starting problem. Go back and check that no dirt has been picked up by the gasket before you fitted it/it hasn\'t been ripped. Check that the inlet manifold has been correctly tightened.

It doesn\'t sound as though you have much of a problem .. more of a \'niggle\'.

I have a 97 dodge stratus. It won't start. Tried

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out

Wouldn't turn engine over

check battery, for correct charge level, are you getting gas ,how about fire to the spark plugs?
I don't know about that year,(to new),but 1988,and some later models
have a module in the distributor that sometimes goes out ,and are heat sensitive if this is the problem you won't
get fire to the plugs untill you change it BEWARE!!!,
the last one i bought,i think was about $64.00
that has been a while so make sure before you run out and buy one!
I hope this helps

GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and...

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

Fuel pressure at idle is normally 30-35psi. Start by taking the gas cap off, and putting it back on. That will De-pressurize the fuel system. Also, make sure you have gas in the car. I have seen gauges on these cars read wrong. I hope this helps.

That sounds like the fuel pump may have lost it's prime. Does it have fuel injection, or a carburetor on the engine? How much gas was in the tank while it was parked on an incline? Have you tried any starting fluid sprayed into the air intake hose, toward the engine? Warning! Don't use much starting fluid! Perhaps a one or two second burst, and have someone crank it immediately after you have stepped back at least 6 feet from the engine. If it fires, then it is definitely a fuel delivery problem! But it won't run long like that unless the fuel pump starts working again ... which is most likely when the engine is cold!

does the check engine light come on whenyou turn the key on for the bulb check? if it doesn't come on you may have a sensor shorted out and it kills the 5 volt reference signal that the ECM uses to power up the system an dlet the truck start.

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.
