Can you hear your fuel pump. There should be a place on the engine where you can connect a pressure gauge. You can use one of these at autozone. They might charge you a deposit to use it but when you return you get money back. Hope this helps.

Why car wont crank, but can smell gas

IT IS LOOKS LIKE A FUEL PRESSURE LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE OR DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING . TRY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. AND CRANK THE ENGINE IF ALWAYS CRANK WITH OUT OF FUEL (CRANK WITHOUT START) YOU HAVE FUEL LEAK INSIDE THE ENGINE
REMOVE THE INJECTORS RAIL UP EVERYTHING CONNECTED,PUT BACK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TURN THE SWITCH ON AND FIND WICH ONE IS LEAKING. (GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE TAKE CARE)

Turns over but acts like it's getting no gas

Possibly check valve in fuel pump is allowing the fuel back into the gas tank

Turn ignition key to ON so the dashboard lights are lit for 5 or 10 seconds,
then CRANK the engine.

This will allow the fuel time to get back to the engine. May take several tries.

Known problem, friend was recently told new pump would have to be installed $500+, decided a few extra seconds to start car once in a while was better option.

2002 Sunfire with 2.2 ECOTEC Car acted like it ran out of gas. Would crank, run roughly a few seconds, then again acted like it ran out of gas. The next day and the next 3 days it has performed...

have the fuel pressure and volume tested with a gage.this sounds and acts like a fuel pump problem.check the fuel filter as well and replace anyways.when it won`t start but cranks can you hear the fuel pump running.listen at the fuel filler neck with the gas cap off.if you can`t listen under the car at the fuel tank you should hear it running/if not hit the gas tank and if the car starts then the pump needs replacing.you should check to make sure you are getting spark at the spark plugs to eliminate an ignition problem but i think its fuel.

I have a 1995 Buick Regal with a 3.8 V6. Car will start just fine on a cold start but will not continue to run unless you hold the engine on at least 3000 rpms for about 30 seconds. it will then idle just...

i think you might be right it sounds like your engine is getting over fed fuel you are probably not getting very good fuel mileage either the 3.8 and 5.0 would defintely require the same volume of fuel it is probably playing havoc on the pressure regulators i would get another fuel pump and start there

Car wont start once ieng is shut off for 20mins or longer

this sounds like a defective fuel pump, but u will need to have the fuel pressure tested when it acts up to verify this is the issue 100%, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.

HELP! HELP! SOMEONE PLEASE ! 2001 chevy blazer fuel problems

I would check to be on the safe side the fuel filter is going in the right direction. The arrow is pointing towards the engine away from the fuel tank, Then you need to make sure the fuel pump wiring connections are good contact and did not come loose when driving.
