The axle seal yes. the drive bearing? are you talking the one inside the trans or the cv joints or the outer wheel bearing the bearings inside the tranny cannot be replaced without pulling the trans out.the others can be.

Looking for # for oil seal and bearing for differential, drive shaft entry side.

Best to get the kit. replace them all. The kit doesn't come with axle bearings or seals. Replace them also. replacing just the pinion bearing is asking for more work. If you don't have the tools and haven't done it before, don't do it. Specs need to be met, if not, you'll trash the whole axle housing.

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  2. With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.

  3. Remove differential housing cover and drain lubricant.

  4. Rotate differential case so pinion mate shaft lock screw is accessible. Remove lock screw and pinion mate shaft from differential case.

  5. Push axle shaft inward and remove axle shaft C-lock from the axle shaft.

  7. Remove axle shaft seal from axle tube with a seal pick.

To install:

  1. Remove any old sealer/burrs from axle tube.

  2. Coat new seal lip with axle lubricant and install seal with a seal driver.

  3. Lubricate bearing bore and seal lip with gear lubricant.

  4. Install axle shaft through seal, bearing and engage into side gear splines.

  5. Install C-lock in axle shaft end, then push axle shaft outward to seat C-lock in side gear.

  6. Install pinion mate shaft into differential case and through thrust washers and differential pinions.

I replaced front drive axle (pass. side) and seal on 1998 accord. Is now leaking where shaft goes into tranny. What could be the problem. Did not leak prior this replacement.

well, if the seal leaks , it can be many reasons.
1: bad seal.
2: damage to seal bore hole done by not using proper tool and scraping the bore. (#1 , install fail)
3: cheap flebay no name parts ? or seals. (junk is junk)
4: shaft is damaged,
5: bearing worn allowing (bouncing) seal to get beat to death.

good seals fail for #5 reason, top reasons, all machines.

I recently replaced my passenger side CV axle as well as the CV axle seal due to a leak. After everything was installed I found I still have a leak and it has actually become slightly worse. The car is on...

It sounds like the inner seal needs to be replaced which means a tear down of the transmission it might be just as easy to replace the tranny but a good repair shop should be able to do this far cheaper.

Rear axle leaking at right rear wheel

DO NOT WAIT- MY DEALER SAID I HAD A SMALL LEAK IN SAME PLACE, BUT DIDN'T SAY IT WAS URGENT. SEAL BLEW OUT DRIVING ON FREEWAY, DAMAGED ONE AXLE BEFORE I COULD EXIT. $1200 REPAIR. IT WAS NOT MAKING ANY NOISE TILL IT FAILED. SOUNDED LIKE TIRE THUMPING TO ME. DEALER REPLACED BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE SEALS, RIGHT SIDE BEARING AND RIGHT SIDE AXLE.

Wobbly sound in the drive train: Replaced left and right CV joints and rack and pinion steering, and one wheel bearing on the left. The wheel bearing was definately bad, I don't know about the CV joints....

having the same type of noise in mine. I dont think you had to change the axles because though it may sound like it they were probably ok. I have been trying to fing the part for mine that it sounds like you need. It's the transmission, there is a aftermarket part that doesn't cure the problem but allows you to get more use out of the car. It is a sleeve that goes in the tranny were the axle seal is and keeps the axle strait so it doesn't bang around in the tranny but unfortunatly I have not been able to find anywhere that has it anymore. still looking. this problem was common to that year car and I talked to a transmission shop and thats where I found out about this problem after I did everthing you did with the axles and the bearing and he told me these cars all had this problem, sorry I cant help you find the part but at least you have an idea of the problem

How to replace rear Axle seal on 4x4 chevy

this is very hard if you do not know what you are doing. Ill try to step you through this
  • pull wheels
  • drain pun-kin case
  • pull rear cover
  • in between the spider and axle sets pull C ring with needle nose pliers
  • pull hub and axle out CAREFULLY as there are roller bearings on the end of the axle housing
  • pull seal out at the end of axle housing
  • tap in new seal CAREFULLY and straight DO NOT BEND IT or it will be junk
  • replace axle carefully as the roller bearings are still there
  • replace C clip to original position
  • replace axle diff cover and replace the gasket with a new one
  • refill diff case
  • install tire
  • your good to go

How do I do a front drive shaft on a 99 silverado? My ujoint is out towards the back. I can see the front just has the 4 bolts to take that apart. what I am wondering is if the back slides out of the deal...

I see that the solution given is for an axle shaft and not the drive shaft that was asked about. I am 99% sure that if you take out the bolts the other end will slide out of the t-case. Then the u-joint can be replaced as normally done.
