Look under the dashboard ( you may need to see the movie " Honey, I shrunk the kids" and shrink yourself to do this.)
Above the brake pedal is a switch that is activated when you push the pedal. When you do, a tiny plunger comes out of the switch, and that causes the switch to go to the "on" position. Your switrch may have fallen out of it's holder, or may be broken, and needs replacement.
Be blessed.

SOURCE: 1998 cadillac deville passenger side tail lights

generally the problem is either a bad bulb socket blown fuse or a bad ground. check to see if you have no loose or stray wires.

SOURCE: brake lights rear

You should check the fuses. There may be a separate fuse from the brake lights and the interior brake light.

SOURCE: rear brake lights stopped working

This is a simple step just to check. But I have a 1993 Eldorado and had the same problem. No turn signals, middle brake light works but others doesn't left or right rear. Turns out the emergency flasher switch was pushed in. The emergency flashers were not working with said switch pushed in, (on) and still doesn't. (probably a flasher unit out)
I pulled out the knob on the lower right of the steering column to turn off the emergency flashers, and voila!
Brake lights and turn signals all working great now.

Replace multi-function switch 2005 mariner

The tail light is usually a bulb with lower wattage, so it won't glow as brightly as the brake and turn lights.. There should be one or two other bulbs in either of the two tail assy's. The turn signal can use the same bulb as the brake light. If so, it's up to the flasher assy to direct the lights to both come on, and/or for one to flash if the brake and turn signal is on, e.g.. There could also be a backup light.

So if the brake and turn lights don't operate, look to the fuses, and flasher assy. for possible replacement.

Brake lights do not light up when peddle is pressed. bulbs have been changed and, fuses are good

If the high mount light works, and you know the bulbs are good, the problem is probably in the turn signal switch.

Headlight switch on makes tail light dim

there must be a short circuit which powers tail lights and brake lights. probably you have a dual filament bulbs which have both brake and tail light together. check for bulb, socket/or bulb housing and harness of that light.

Tail lights and brake lights are combined. I have tail lights but no brake lights. fuses look good.

No they are different systems going to the same place, the tail lights use one fillament in the bulb and the brake and turn signal use the other, a couple things to check, brake light fuse, brake switch (located on the brake peddle) check for power, I have also run into the 4 way flasher that were the problem, more than likely the brake switch

All fuses are good and bulbs tail lights even work. but no brake lights

Check the break switch under the break peddle. There sould be some kind of switch with a button on it that is always pushed untill you press the break peddle. The switch goes bad sometimes.

Brake lights don't light, bulbs good, flashers and turn signals ok, tail lights good, swapped bulbs and 20a fuse in engine compartment

Hello compwizard
The next thing to check is the brake light switch. The switch is located
under the dash on the left side of the brake peddle bracket. There
should be constant 12v into the switch and 12v out when brake is
applied. Use a 12v test light or volt meter to check the switch. The switch is a fairly common cause of the problem you have.
Hope this helps

2002 Toyota highlander passenger brake light not working

RE: 2002 Toyota Highlander 2.4cyl. 4X4 Base Model

I am a Certified Technician and have basic knowledge with electronics in electrical wiring. I searched the web and discovered this is a common problem.

I fixed the problem and it was a simple procedure... The problem is with the reverse light socket at the side with no brake light. This socket functions as a hub to direct current to the brake bulbs.

Remove reverse light socket and re-seat bulb. Check for loose or broken prongs. Replace if necessary.

Swap the reverse socket with the other side.
