Check engine light came on, the throttle body sensor?

The check engine light came on and when my husband took it in to the local auto parts store they said the code was for the throttle body sensor. is this something we can fix ourselves? what does this entail? we just had our car in the shop for the timing belt and aren't looking for another pricey shop-job.

Throttle body sensors are easy to replace(generally). you need to locate throttle body(air filter connected to it). A 9v battery sized sensor with two or more wires should be connected to it. If you can find this it should have snaps on the sides ot top that disconnect it. Sensor should also be inexpensive. Good luck hope I helped.

seems like you just need a sensor and not the whole throttlebody.

How do I adjust the throttle body

The throttle bodies on most newer cars are not adjustable for its idle speed. If the Check Engine Light is on, go to the nearest auto parts store and get them to pull the error codes from your car's computer. Post the codes back here and we can give you a better answer to your question

Is your check engine light on? If it is then take it to a local auto parts store, they will usually put their scanner on it to check problems. Your light has to be on for a trouble code to pop up. It also could check all kinds of other functions as well. Have you changed all your filters, fuel, air etc.. have you ever cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor. All kinds of crud can build up on the back of the throttle plate and the sensor. If the sensor gets covered it won't register the air flow correctly. check your spark plugs. a couple bad pugs will make your engine run like do do

What happens when throttle positioning sensor fails

did the engine check light come on and is there a DTC P code set? If so that will help diagnose the issue. Local auto parts store can read the codes for you. Parts store can help with codes.

The check engine light is on and the car is idling high and jerking while stopped?Does anyone know whats wrong with it. I have a 2009 chevy hhr. Thanks

No one is going to know what is wrong with it. You must find out why the engine light is on. The PCM has detected a fault in one or more of its systems. In order to know what the fault may be you must retrieve the codes stored in it. Most auto part stores will hook up a generic OBD II code reader for free. But since its an 09, it should be under warranty. If you tinker with it, can't fix it so then take it to the dealer, they may deny your warranty claim because you worked on it first.

My vehicle would not start this morning. After turning the key in the ignition, the engine turns over and all the lights work, but then the car shuts off. No check engine light is on. I am thinking that...

My car was doing the same thing, just today I took the day off and my neighbor, which is a mechanic told me that I probably need to clean the Idle control valve. I went to the local auto part store and bought a can of throttle body cleaner and a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner for a total of about $12.00 and he disassembled the throttle body and sprayed the parts for me while I revved the engine and that fixed it. My car now runs great.

When driving and you push the gas to go it chugs like it is running out of gas. If you let off the gas it runs fine until you have to push the gas again. We have changed out the fuel filter and took it...

Replace your MAF sensor in the air ducting between the air filter box and the throttle body. If the mass air flow sensor is in trouble it can cause such issues. I also suspect that you have a "check engine light" on. Have this scanned by any local auto parts store for free and let me know the code.

The Lincoln LS 2002 what causes the engine to cut off in local traffic or sitting at a traffic light.

1--(TPS) Throttle Position Sensor
2-Mechanically bound fuel pump.

Check for codes,if light is on dash, when it occurs.

TPS- is avail at auto part store or online. Forget the dealer. They will sell you the entire throttle body. Only need that if the motor fails. Sensor is replaceable.

Check fuel pressure also.

Jeep stalls

I had the same problem... frustrating.

I picked up a repair manual at the parts store. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner spray. I changed the Idle Air Control Valve (idle speed motor) which was very clogged. While I had the throttle body off I also changed the Map Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. The manual will walk you through the steps. I had never done anything like this before. If I can do you so can you.
My Jeep has never run better. Good Luck
