This is the second time these bearings have gone out, trying to figure out what is making them go out?

What will cause the carrier bearings in a 2000 Suburban to go out?

Generally , when they have been overtightened. They must be tightened with a torque wrench. Sorry , do,nt know the setting. Hope this helps.

Transmission


Your problem is a bad CV axle and outer carrier bearing failure. The grinding is coming from brake rotor on that side due to the bearing failure. the brake rotor and bearing is causing the lock down. Do not attempt to drive or further damage will occur. Transmission is probably OK. Replace both sides (CV axels and Carrier bearings, 150,000 is time) Check brake components for damage and replace pads while you are there.

Rear wheels lock up at times,dont do it with heavy load. checked brakes,seems ok. pulled rear axels out drivers side splines worn,all bearing seems ok


look in rear diff. worn gear is binding up. not going to last long. fix now before it blows the whole carrier and everything.also A worn U joint in driveshaft could cause this

Carrier Bearing Noise - it's been changed 3 times in about 3 months


it might be the hub its self that the racer and bearing sits in if there warped they will go after a few miles get garage to check hubs first

Rear end clunk when accelerating and going into second gear and reversing


if this noise wasn`t there before the wheel bearing was replaced and only showed up afterwards then its a defective wheel bearing.shops have this problem from time to time when a cheap qaulity bearing is used as they are not made to the same specs as a qaulity bearing,also have the cv joint checked on the same side as it could have a problem from changing the bearing for what ever the reason.the joint may have moved more than normal when its installed in the car.strange things happen at times.

Pinion gear bearing replacement


To do that job correctly involves removing the carrier, re-setting the pinion depth and checking gear patterns for proper engagement. All that requires experience and special tools (like dial indicators)
Generally speaking, when any bearing in the differential fails, the debris contaminates the other bearings therefore, even if the outer pinion bearing has failed, inner and both side bearings should be replaced or shortly after the job is finished, you will have another problem.
Generally faster and easier to replace the entire unit with a scrapyard part (drum to drum). Just make sure that if it's a 4x4, that you match the gear ratio exactly.Most otherwise decent techs can't set up a differential right so unless you are really into doing this, a replacement is the way to go.

If you want to try just replacing the outer bearing, count the number of turns it took to remove the pinion nut and when putting it back together,re- tighten the nut to that exact number including any half turns. You will need a seal and bearing assembly. You can drive the bearing race out from the inside by removing the carrier and the pinion gear. Carrier bolts need to be torqued. (don't remember the # off hand but it's in any decent manual)

Replaced U-Joints and had vibration ,had driveshaft balanced and still vibration 45MPH on up. 2000 1500 extend cab 4 4 8'bed 2-piece drive shaft with carrier bearing, any ideals also fan switch speeds 1...


check your tires for a bad spot or a knot. this could cause the vibration. check you switch and see if it has power. if it does maybe the a relay.could also be a lose ground wire.

What are the bearings on the splined end of the rear axles (In the diff housing). 2000 suburban 1500 4wd w/8.6 rear. They both have caps on them w/2 bolts holding them on. Are they hard to replace.


Those are carrier side bearings. Usually they need to be pressed on to the carrier and on many, positioning is critical to avoid premature gear wear and failure. If those bearings fail, depending upon the level of failure, they will contaminate the gear lube and also damage the pair of bearings on the pinion gear, in which case the entire differential needs to be set up for proper clearances (basically rebuilt) which requires a fair level of knowledge and learned skills as well as a dial indicator. At that point, many times replacing the unit end to end with one from a scrapyard is cheaper and faster.

Ford super duty vibration/shake


The carrier bearing should not move at all. It is mounted in rubber to give a little. But, it should not move freely. If this is the case then something has gone bad. The carrier bearing would cause this vibration as it spins if it is loose.

Carrier bearing removal on a 2000 f250


Remove the drive line. Split the drive shaft apart and then do as you guessed and remove the nut. Then you can get the carrier bearing off.
