Question about Mitsubishi Montero Sport

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with about 140K miles. At times I hear a screeching noise, mostly when a load is being applied, usually between 15-40mph. This only happens with the Air Conditioner on. If I turn the AC off the noise stops immediately. Turn the AC back on and there is no noise if above 45mph. Stop and with AC on apply a load the noise starts again. Can this most be the Harmonic Balancer and if so how do you remove and replace or could it be the clutch in the AC unit??

Quick, great response from bepositive. Confirmed my thoughts that it is probably the bearing and completely satisified question as to whether it was harmonmic balancer. Will definitely be happy to use again.

Its not at all the problem of harmonic balancer.that is confirmed .now If it's a creaking noise then it is most likely that your compressor is broken. the compressor assembly gets craked .also Sounds like you may have a bad bearing on the clutch hub. Take the belt off and spin the compressor hub and see if it spins smooth orrough.either the compressor or the bad clutch bearing.,----
get it checked.
please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated thanks.

I have a Montero Sport 2003, last week I had Freon added to be prepared for the summer, I noticed a noise and ask the mechanic, he said it was the fan but nothing to worry about. I drove the Montero for 2...

If the noise started after you added the Freon, then it perhaps is your AC clutch. Normally if you have an automatic AC system, then when the Freon gets low, the auto system will not allow the AC to engage, only allowing the fan to circulate outside air. In order to add Freon to the system, the AC lock out has to be over ridden, in order for the compressor to **** in the Freon. This in turn engages the AC system so that the clutch engages, thus engages your AC system. The clutch bearings may be at fault.

Most like the converter is bad, Often, over time the material inside the converter breaks apart and will clog up the flow of exhaust. Replacement of the converter is needed.

Shuddering going uphill 2001 mitsubishi montero sport

Most likely you have a misfire, I'd be surprised if it didnt turn on the check engine light. It may be a coil or sparkplg problem.
Do this this. With your foot on the brake hard and the ebrake on put the car in gear and rev the car up a bit. What your doing is putting a load on the engine to see if it shutters. If it does it points to a coil issue usually or it just may be time plugs and wires

2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 65,000Miles. My belts seem to make a lot of annoying, loud sound. Especially after it rains. Is this a timing belt/chain issue or one of the other belts?

I have a 98 Montero Sport, whenever my belt sqeaks I check the tension and usually thats the problem. Tighten them accordingly and it should solve it. As for the timing belt, mine is a belt not chain. First time I had it changed was at 100,000 miles and the dealrship said I was cutting it close ><

Whenever I turn my AC or Heat on in my car, I hear a loud squealing or grinding noise...

this is because your bearing in the heater motor is going out. if this is driving you nuts then you will have to replace the blower
hope this helps you
