Question about 2008 Toyota Highlander

1 Answer

Remote not opening trunk/hatch and navigation volume not talking out.

The remote control of my Toyota Highlander does not open/close my trunk/hatch. The button beside the steering wheel opens/closes it but remote does not. How can I solve this problem? Also, my navigation screen volume is not talking out. After checking the setting under SOUND, I realized that the plus(cursor) is located at a corner at the back and not centralized. I tried using the left/right/front/rear button on the screen to move it to central position but none of them is working. Due to this, the radio/CD and back drop down system are not talking out. How can I solve this problem. Thanks.

My highlander 2008, the doors can be locked and open with key and remote but cannot open the trunk with key and remote

To make the rear door open, you have to hold the button for a while. If the battery is weak, that will drain the power and the door will not open. Try the other remote and see if it works. At that point, I would replace the batteries in both remotes anyway.
That would be the fastest and cheapest way to eliminate one possible problem.
If the inside open button works to open the door, I would say the mechanism is working fine and it is the batteries.
I had to replace the batteries in both my remotes at the 3 year mark. That should be about now, the second time, for yours.

Trunk will not close

check that latch is releasing when using remote. remote uses a cable to pull latch and cable may need to be lubed causing the latch to stick open. Let me guess if you slam a couple times it will latch, lube the actuator cable and latch well. hope this helps

Fob not working 2001 Highlander

Couple of times when you replace the remote battery, you might have them not working/ responding but just follow the procedure below.

Stand close to the car, hold down the open and close knobs for about 10 seconds. Press them at the same time for 3 seconds; then press the open button as the car opens.

The above procedure is applicable to a lot of car brands. It does not matter how many knobs you might have on the remote fob.

I have carried this procedure out on a lot of brands ranging from Honda, Toyota, Rover, Ford, etc. and it works perfectly well.

Good luck and Rate this.

Cheers

We have a backpack strap caught in the back hatch lock on our Highlander and now cannot open the trunk- any suggestions?

you will have to have some 1 operate the lock manually and some one to operate the hatch the person operating the hatch will have to pull very hard or may even need to pry it open while pulling on the door handle put something over the bumper so as not to scratch it and use a tire iron or something along those lines it will take a little effort but you can do it.

Back hatch door closed on strap of backpack-now can't open door

Try pressing down on the trunk /hatch and at the same time turn the key to try and open it. It might take a lot of downware pressure to finally get it to come open.
