Question about 2005 Pontiac G6

2 Answers

Driving and car doesn't want to go over 2500 rpm's.

Not always, but some times while driving it starts to slow down, I give it gas and nothing...not even a rev. I slow back down then gradually get back up to speed. If I punch it, it will only bog down. Is there some sensor that will do this?

It's actually a 96 cadillac sts. How it got under a pontiac I don't know... If it were a fuel pump, wouldn't it be good or bad, no between?

Yes there is a sensor that can cause this. First, is your Pontiac drive-by-wire? Meaning that there is no throttle cable connecting the gas pedal to the throttle? If so, the TPPS sensor (throttle position pedal sensor) may be faulty. You will need a scan tool with PID data capability to check the sensor feedback. If it is not DBW then the TPS sensor on the throttle body may be faulty or the fuel pump may not be supplying enough fuel pressure to the engine causing a lean condition. Hope this helps!!

It sounds more like a faulty fuel pump. Usually a sensor problem will switch the computer into default mode and it will keep running but give you an engine light. Sounds like it is not getting fuel. It can be checked for fuel pressure by a mechanic with a guage. They can also check stored codes in the computer for faults. If it's a sensor, it should show up in the memory.

The fuel pump has a switch that helps it maintain pressure in the system. If that switch is not working very well, it might not turn on when it should or turn off before it should.
There are a number of other things that can be intermittently failing. (Corroded wire connections, etc.)

2008 sprinter 2500, every time i start to drive I have no power for about 5 to 8 seconds nothing happening then slowly it starts to rev up engine and start to drive then its fine , there r no codes

Check the engine in neutral/park and depress gas and confirm engine is slow to rev up. If the engine revs in gear and little or no movement have the transmission checked.

this car is likely a drive by wire.(no cable between gas pedal and throttle actuator motor) Some one needs to observe the throttle to see if it advances when the gas is depressed.

The simplest analysis would be the connection to the engine computer with not a simple scan tool but a Chrysler proprietary analyzer to see the interaction of throttle position and engine RPM

Hope this helps?

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.
