Where is the ignition control module located on 4 Ford Taurus 3.8 engine a how do I replace it

Hi Tracie , there is no ignition control module . The PCM controls the coils . You would need to check the red wire going to the coil pack for battery voltage . The other three wires come from the PCM - powertrain control module . With a test light hooked up to battery positive ,touch the other end of the test light to those other three wires one at a time while cranking over the engine . If the test light flickers the PCM is doing what it should be doing . Now if the test light does not flicker you more then likely have a bad crankshaft position sensor. Now would you like to elaborate a little bit on the problem your having ? No start ? no spark at the spark plugs etc..

Ford Taurus idles low and takes 3-4 times to stay running on cold days

Some of these models have 2 temperature sensors. One makes the dash gauge or light work and the other works the engine controls.

The one that makes the engine controls work acts like a choke. It speeds up the rpm and enriches the fuel mix for cold starts. This is why you are having more problems in cold weather. You can see which one operates the dash gauge and then change the other one. Hopefully once you get the temperature sensor reporting to the engine management module, everything will work again.

What mileage do you replace serpentine or time chain belts.

Your replace the serpentine belt when it is worn, cracked, or appears to need replacing. It should easily last 100,000 miles. The 2002 Taurus has a timing chain and not a belt which will last the life of the engine.

Po316 2002 ford taurus

P0316 - Engine Misfire Detected on Start up (First 1000 Revolutions)

I checked the P0316 and this is what I got:

1. Fuel pressure - Pump, regulator, filter or lines
2. Fuel injector(s) faulty
3. Ignition system - Ignition module, coil, spark plugs and wires
4. Fuel system
5. Update control unit software - Check for the latest control unit update
6. Powertrain or Engine Control Module faulty

I started with number three because it's easy to get too. After pulling off the spark plug wires, I started thinking the wires are about three years old. I still pulled off the wires and checked and they are still clean as can be on the inside. Also, I changed the plugs the same time I did the wires. The coil I just changed about two - three months ago because it went out on me. As far as the rest of the stuff I am not sure where I should check next. I am not 100% sure how to check the fuel pressure - pump etc. I have read the Fuel injectors are easy to change but not sure how to test them. I would like to try and test the stuff first before going and spending money that I don't need too. With that being said, I live one hour one way to the nearest auto part store so I would like to know what I need before I make the drive.

keep us updated.

If there is play in the box, where the heater core is,or the heater hose lines are not supported to keep them from putting pressure on the heater core this will happen.

2000 Buick LeSabre Will not start Replaced cam

Multiple engine misfire is related to the coils and the ignition control module. I have a 2002 with the 3.8 engine. It has three coils. I just went through this problem. I bought one coil and tried it in each position with no improvement. It was the ignition control module. Mine is located under the three coils. A relatively easy item to replace. Cost about $140.

I have replaced the ignition module 4 times already.

Sounds like you may have a bad ignition coil also, causing the module to burn up.

2002 LX 470 won't start

For 2002 LX470; after monthly starting failures each month, over seven month period. First, battery was replaced, then throttle assembly, then engine computer, then ignition module, then transmission, then problem was attributed to a cracked fuse module and entire module was replaced. Port for one of the fuses was supposedly cracked (although no final determination could be made because module is completely sealed and cannot be opened without destroying entire contents). Problem attributed to expansion/contraction in module that had crack, resulting in intermittent starting failures.
