Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier
I have a 1995 Chevy Cavalier that has been sitting in the yard for a while. i tried to start it but the battery was dead so i jumped it. The car started for a while but in order to keep it going i had to keep the gas pedal pushed down. i waited a while and finally it would idle and stay running even without the gas pedal being pushed. I did not try to drive it. After a few minutes i turned on the air conditioner on and the whole car shut off. when i went to retry it would not longer start only turn over for a millisecond and start to make clicking noises. i though the a/c compressor had frozen up so i replaced the belt with one without an a/c component but even after i changed belts it did the same thing. what could be wrong with it
Sounds like your starter solenoid has gone bad. You could try to just change the solenoid but given the year of the car i would probably just replace the whole starter. Most importantly i would take the starter into AutoZone or another auto parts store and have them test it. They can also test/charge the battery for you. Should be a simple fix. Let me know if I can help further. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.com
