Under the hood in a black box. You sure it's fuel problem? Will it start if you spray carb. cleaner in the throtle body?? If it is a fuel problem, It's probly the pump.(in the tank.)

Find the fuel filter.(on the fram rail under the truck) Take the line off going from the tank to the filter. Turn the key on, the pump should run for aprox. 3 sec. fuel should come from the line. If not, take a hammer and try hitting the fuel tank. Then try the key again.(the pumps sometimes get hung up and the jaring frees them up.)If the pump runs, it after hitting the tank, replace the pump. If not, take a test light and find the harnes going to the tank (it will come from the fraim rail and go over the tank) Ground the light to the fram and check the wires one at a time.Find the one that has no fire on it and turn the key on one wire should have fire for aprox. 3 sec. If you are getting fire to the pump (the wire that has fire for 3 sec. when the key is turned on should be hot while the key is turned to crank) If the fire is good, it's the pump. Fuel pumps are a common problem on older cars.

My suburban has to be primed to start

There is a separate circuit and relay that primes the fuel system when you start the vehicle. If you sit in a silent location and turn the key to the ON position (without cranking), you should hear the fuel pump run for about 5-6 seconds. This is to bring the fuel pressure up in order to let the vehicle start. Then the normal pump circuit takes over. Sounds like your priming circuit is not working. I would try the relay first.

Where is the fuel pump relay on a 1991 gmc jimmy

Thye fuelpump relay is located to the right of the brake booster. this is for a 1991 gmc jimmy (s-15)

I have enclosed a diagram to help locate the relay.

The most common reason for no fuel pressure on these trucks is not the relay but rather the fuelpump itself. the pump is located inside the fuel tank.

There is also a problem with the wiring to the fuel pump, you will need to locate the top of the tank and then off to side of tank is wiring .
This wiring comes off the top of the tank, you will need to check and there is connector problems..
there is one or two ground wires that come off wiring to top of tank which run to frame, check to make sure the grounds are good. if you end up with a bad pump you will see a notice to rewire a new fuelpump connector. hope this is helpful. good day.3_4_2012_1_29_16_am.gif

1991 1500 4x4 5.7 liter suburban. Will start and then die, like its not getting gas. Fuel pump has been checked, gas pressure regulator has been replaced, shop said hose from fuel tank to fuel pump had...

Yes, there is a Fuel Pump Relay. The Relay is located on the firewall just above the left-hand (even cyclinders) valve cover as viewed from the front of the car. There is also fuel pump test lead attached to the harness at the fuel pump relay. Attach a power wire from the battery to the lead and the fuel pump should come on. If fuel pump comes on, the relay could be bad. Also check the fuel filter located under the passenger side of the truck tucked into the frame rail.

85 gmc suburban wont start it will turn over ... could it be fuel pump

It could be, I would check for fuel at the test fitting on the fuel rail. Also check for spark at the coil and the plugs and check the fuses and fuel pump relay.

1996 GMC Suburban - Quit Running While Driving, Will Not Start

Listen at the back by the fuel tank for a 1 to 2 second prime cycle whirr from the tank when turning the key to run position after it has been off for at least 10 seconds.
No noise means no running pump.
....and no noise means.....
Most likely it will need a new fuel pump....80%
Fuel pump relay 10%
Fuse or bad wiring 10%

The quick fix to get home is to crank the truck to create oil pressure to fire the pump......and while cranking WHACK the tank hard with a 2by4 or something like that....to jar the pump..... and it may start running long enough to get it somewhere to be repaired.
This works 60% of the time on a dead pump.

If you do hear a whirrr.....you most likely need a ignition module or crank or dist pickup.
