This is an E.G.R. code. Some can be cleaned, some can't.

Check hoses around your gas tank. We had to replace all of mine even after a new gas cap was put on.

Check engine codes

P0456 = small leak in EVAP system. First check the seal on the fuel cap and if the cap is installed well. When ok, check the rubber EVAP system hoses, which pass the rear axle, they tend to dry rott and start leaking.

How to fix obd 2 PO456 on jeep grand cherokee laredo 2002

Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be the cause:
  • A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
  • A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
  • The EVAP Canister may be leaking

JEEP CHEROKEE 2003, HAS A FAULT CODE:P0456,EVAP SYSTEM VERY SMALL LEAK. How can I fix this?

First check the gas cap. There is a seal in it make sure it is not dry rotted and cracked. The cap is the most common cause for this code. Usually it is not tightened down enough. At least three clicks after it is seated.

Engine light stays on code # P0456

P0456 is Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected.

More often than not it is a gas cap that is either not put on corrert or it has failed to hold the seal.
Less likely causes are:
  • A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
  • A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
  • The EVAP Canister may be leaking

P0456 OBD code just appeared on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Filled the gas tank and erased the code, but it's reappeared a week later.

That code definition is (evaporative system small leak detected). One of the most common reasons for this code is a faulty gas cap. The evap system is strictly designed to trap fuel vapors in the tank and not allow them to scape into the atmosphere. The vehicle keeps a constant vacume on the tank and when it is unable to hold that pressure it will set the code you have. Try buying a new gas cap-thats a cheap start-clear the code and see what happens. If the light comes back on you will have to bring it to a repair shop where they will tap into the Evap system and force smoke into it. They will then observe the Evap hoses and wherever it leaks smoke will be your problem.

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokke v8 and with 11000 miles and the check engine light came on today I did get gas last night but I removed the gas cap today and put it back on ... the light is still on last...

Remove your negative cable for 5 min. from your battery to reset the comp. code. Put it back on. Drive it. If the light comes on, go to your local auto parts store, Autozone or someone big like that. They'll do a free scan on the comp. for the code and get you moving in the right direction for fix!
