Question about 2001 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

I ahve 2001 stratus and when in neutral it goes up to 4000RPM

When in Neutral, when I accelerate it will only go up to 4000 RPM then cuts out like a stall converter. Also it misses when accelerating, I think it might be the throttle postion sensor? has anybody else had this problem.

The cars computer takes fire away from the cylenders to prevent over reving. If you make it do thie too much it can foul the plugs.

2007 chevrolet impalahave a 07 impala runs great till ur rpm meter goes past 4000rpm then drops down to 0 runs bad after shut down engine for around 10 mins then runs good again check with scanner no

It needs a scanner on it to find the problem while driving it. Several things can cause this. At 4000 rpm's in park the ecm will suppress the engine. this would be the Neutral safety switch. So going from there, if not the switch, it could be wiring or a bad buffer in the ecm.

this is correct for this vehicle they are all like it ,they have a rev limiter and when i present vehicles for the anual mechanical inspection and they want to check the noise specs at 4000rpm it causes a problem but as this limit is on the certificate of homoglonation the test centres have to accept the 2800 ,well this is spain home of paperwork and jobs worth

03 mitsubishi endeavor engine cuts out at 4000 rpm when driving revs fine when in neutral. It has no engine codes. any ideals?

At 4000 rpm what does your speedo say. Your computer may be limiting both your mph and your rpms. I have a 2004 Ford Ranger at 90 mph the engine sputters and seems to miss. It will stay at 90. In neutral it revs fine. My problem is because of chip programming in the computer. Your problem may be the same.

Rpm does not reach 4000 rpm

Neutral or Drive N rev limiter to prevent engine damage from no load over acceleration. D: many things could be at fault. Has your fuel filter been changed in the last 30,000miles. What about a tune up? Is your CEL(Check Engine Light) on? If so have a parts store check for codes, some do it for free. Then get back to us and we can go from there.

It's designed that why,so you don't damage it. It cuts off at around 3300 to 3500 in park and you say neutral.

Engine speed will not rev over 4000rpm

take it to a mechanic to check the timing. if the timing is off then it may run at a idle an a little above but once you rev it up then the timing will truely show an it will run like ****. have you checked your air filter that may be another cause. hope this helps

In neutral car is not going more then 4000 rpm

The 300M is equiped with a rev-limiter. The technology is designed to protect the engine. It keeps you from blowing it up when it has no load on it...If it is driving and shifting ok, and you have no check engine light on...there is nothing wrong.
Why would want to rev the engine past 4000 rpm in neutral anyway? Max torque comes in around 3950 RPM...
If you keep reving it up in neutral you might throw the computer in to LIMP mode, then you wont go no where.
Hope this answers your question...

Car starts and idols fine but once you get it to 4000 rpm it cuts out and then every time you hit the gas it will accelerate then cut out. it doesn't die out until you do this for a long time.

Ya know First i never drive a car at 4ooo RPMS cant remember when but anyway.
Check the Intake Air tube the goes into the air cleaner and throttle body for cracks and cuts and being loose. Fuel Pressure have it checked while you are driving to make sure your noy loosing fuel pressure at the high Rs.
