Question about 2003 Toyota Matrix

Wont start after changing the alternator, battery, and MAF sensor

My car wont start. I changed the alternator and the battery. I also changed the MAF sensor, but when I turn the key it still wont start. I think its either the starter or something is wrong with my alarm. It really feels like the kill switch is on and I cant start the car. Please help. I am running out of patience and money.

    what kind of symptoms would I find if the computer is fried? The car is fine if I push start it. The alarm seems to be the problem.

    Yes it is a factory alarm. My clutch is on the verge of going bad. It is starting to slip alot. So If I understand you correctly, it could be the starter or the switch on the clutch peddel?

    What make of car is it?
    Factory alarm?
    Alternator/battery did you run it flat?
    I'm assuming it's turning over.

Sometimes the alarm thinks the pos. battery cable has been cut so it kills the ighition. You will have to look in the manual to see how to reset the alarm. You may need a code. If its not the alarm, you may have blown a fuse or worse, fried the computer when you put the alt. in. start at the begining. Check the battery cable connections, battery voltage, alt. wires and connections. if the headlighys work but the car won't start, it's prob. not a "connection" problem.

    If the car will run by push starting it the computer is ok. If the computer was bad the car wouldn't run at all.Is this a factory alarm? If you can get to the starter, and you can get a remote starter button(it's just a push button with 2 wires. One hooks to the pos. battrey post , the other to the small post on the starter selonoid.) turn the key to on and push the remote starter button. If it starts, you need to check the switch on the clutch peddel. (this switch is like a nutral safety switch on an automatic trans.)

    It could be the starter. You can check it with a multi meter if you have one. But the easy way to check it is with a remote starter button. I would start with the switch on the clutch peddle. Look under the dash, there will be a switch that the clutch comes in contact with. Unfortunately, you will need wiring schem. meters, ect. to test the switch. If the switch has moved out of adjustment, it's an easy fix, just move it to where the clutch peddle operates the switch. You can find the switch and push the button on it in by hand and see if it starts. If it does, replace the switch. To check the starter, you can get a large Gage wire (10 ga.), turn the key to run, hook the wire to the small post on the starter solenoid, then touch it to the pos. battery post. I don't recommend the wire trick too strongly because there is a potential for elect shorts. But it will work.

Scan vehicle for codes a maf sensor will through a code. I am thinking your starter is bad. The clicking noise is from the starter trying to activate the engine.

Changed crankshaft sensor,car turned over while car started i pulled battery cable to see if needed a alternator, car ran for a minute then shut off, now car will turn over but wont start again,


pulling the battery wire is the worst thing you could do
st it energized the immobilizer
next it is a good way of blowing the alternator
to check if the alternator is working simply put a multimeter across the battery terminals

I have a 2005 Maxima and my BF ran it out of gas and sine then my car starts but wont stay unningeven after adding fuel. We have changed the MAF sensor also all 6 spark plugs. It still doesnt want to


Change the fuel filter then see if it will start.If it doesn't the you will need to check the fuel pressure if its not within the specs (CHILTON AUTO MANUAL) then replace the fuel pump.

My 2006 dodge stratus wont start. it just died on me while i was driving. i changed the spark plugs and it would act as if it wants to start but wont turn over. it says P0340 on the diagnostic. pleases...


Battery or alternator? is probably the problem......try jumping it and if it still dies replace alternator...but dont forget to check all wires coming from battery and cleaning them....

Have a 2003 ford focus. idling problem


if you have 14 volts or more at the battery at 1000 rpms, the battery & alternator are fine. If you get the same surge when you turn the bower motor on high speed, it is just the normal load on the alternator as it puts out more current. The engine is supposed to compensate by kicking up the idle. It does this through the IAC, idle air control. You may need to clean the IAC passages and the throttle body passages. I also would clean the MAF sensor heated wires with carb cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner. The MAF is in the iar intake hose and has a 2 or 3 wire connector going to it. The heated wires are in the air stream. Then disconnect the battery for 2 hours to clear the "Keep alive memory"
It will relearn after you drive for 10 miles. May run rough for that time.

Replaced alternator, now car won't start


disconnecting the battery on an alternator is a no no. that was how they used to ck generators but an alternator can be damaged with no load in the circuit. Try changing out your MAF sensor. 1st sensor coming out of the air cleaner. good luck.

ck the crank position sensor. It's on the front of ehgine at the crank pully. If there seems to be a fuel problem, ck the maf sensor. first sensor out of air cleaner. good luck
