The timing belt has probably broken and this is an interference engine so there is a very good chance that the valves have been bent and the cylinder head will have to be removed for repair.

Does it seem to sound different when it's cranking...kind of like a sewing machine? I'm thinking broken timing belt, has it been checked.
    Engine size and mileage please.

Sounds like your timing belt let go..ther is a rubber plug in top of timing belt cover..remove it and see if camshaft sprocket is turning..if not, belt broke..more than likely valve or piston damage

How to diagnose timing belt verses cam sensor wont start and sounds funny when turning over

If it sounds like it has no compression I would vote for the timing belt. Code 16 is for the cam and crank sensors being out of sync, and code 340 is no signal from the cam sensor. Which would happen if the cam is not turning.

run fault codes and check for cam/crank position sensors fault. Check that the cam is turning as it may have broken a timing belt.

04 dodge neon showing P0325 and P0340 codes at same time.

Code 0325 is for a Knock sensor. Code 0340 is for the Cam sensor #1 if this is an engine with 2 heads and it is an indication of a single sensor on single head engines.

So if you do have a multiple hed engine, you may have removed the good sensor and left the bad sensor in the other head.

Remember to wipe the computer memory after installing new parts.

Rough idle and misfire on ram truck

Change cam sensor & erase codes.( disconnect battery for a minute or so after.) 340 & 1391 refer to cam sensor problem, and all other 300 codes are cylinder misfires that should disappear when cam sensor fixed.
