I checke the solenoid and its ok but when you turn the key you cant hear the fuel pump start up like you should. Do you know if the cadillac has a fuel shut-off switch?

  • J-ROE May 19, 2009

well when you do turn the key you cant hear the fuel pump like you should. so i think that it is the fuel pump

so according to what you have written, your starter is not turning unless you jump across the solenoid and you can't hear the fuel pump, so, its the fuel pump thats bad? Am I correct in what I understand from you?

If it's got an electric pump (and you do) it has a pump relay in there somewhere. Check voltage at the pump and listen under the hood for the relay to click when you turn the key on. How did you check the solenoid? did you take it apart?

There should be a wire that runs from the ignition to the solenoid, check that the wire has power when you turn the ignition key, if it has power the solenoid may need replacing.
Check to see if you have power getting to the distributor and the spark plugs, if you have spark it is possibly in the fuel system

When you say the starter has power, are you saying it has power on the large post and on the small post when the key switch is in the start position ? Can you jump the terminals and make it crank ?

Just want to know if the 1999 deville cadillac is fronmt or real wheel drive

All Cadillac Deville models are FWD (front wheel drive) after 1985. The only RWD models made were the 85-92 Brougham, 92-96 Fleetwood Brougham, the 97-02 Catera, the 2004+ STS and 2003+ CTS.

My 92 cadillac deville is loosing power after i drive it for so long. I press the gas and it doesnt rev up or speed up unless im barely pressing the gas pedal what is the problem??

Check the air filter for a blockage. If you have a scanner, check to see that the TPS (throttle position sensor) is going all the way from 0% to 100% opening as you press the accelerator down all the way, while the ignition is on and the engine is not running.
Check for codes that might lead to a solution, if the above doesn't help.

92 cadillac deville that will not start.

It sounds like your batery is empty.
Or maybe your start rotor is a bit stuck.
if so give it a hit with a rubber hammer that can help loosen it.

92 sedan deville 4.9 engine will not start from the steering col

SOUNDS LIKE THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH HAS FAILED. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY THERE IS A SWITCH LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN THAT IS ACTUATED BY A ROD ON THE KEY SWITCH. IT HAS TWO BOLTS HOLDING IT IN PLACE. IT ALSO HAS TWO MULTI-WIRE PLUGS FEEDING IT. TO ACCESS THIS YOU NEED TO UNBOLT THE COLUMN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DASHBOARD. IT IS NOT THE EASIEST TO REACH. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA

Did not pay attention to the wiring when changing out the starter on a 92' cadillac deville

Don't have diagram but, all wires that have a large loop go on the large terminal with the battery cable. There should be one (usually purple) wire that connects to the right side small terminal on the solenoid. If you have three terminals, usually the third (on the left side) is unused. Any leftover wires or problems post back (I have one of those starters with wires still on outside somewhere) Make sure that no wires are touching a terminal they are not attached to or to ground. Solenoid cover is plastic...don't pull down too hard on nuts.
