Question about 1988 Pontiac 6000 Wagon
Bought a 1988 Pontiac 6000 LE for $1. Was told it stalls when slowing down or stopping. Starts right back up and runs. Only when it slows down, the problem rears its ugly head. Anyone had this happen? I haven't taken it to get the codes read yet.
I've had vehicles that have done this in the past. In the meantime, try to get used to using two feet at the same time (one on the gas and one on the break) to keep the RPMs up while slowing down. It's just a temporary fix, and not recommended that you continue to drive like that.
When you have a chance, get a mechanic to adjust the timing 'UP' a tad so it won't stall out.
If the vehicle is at a timing where it SHOULD be, then raising it to fix this problem will also be temporary until the problem can be diagnosed fully.
After all, however, it is an old cheapy right? These are just quick fixes.
