SOURCE: 2002 dodge stratus alternator problem? Charging

It is obvious that you have an alternator charging problem, diode ripple being high is possible evidence of leaking diodes. I would have liked to know what is going on with the amps doing testing also and the condition of the battery.

Why do gauges keep flickering on and off at all speeds and blinkers tend to work on and off?

Do the headlamps flicker also ? Possible excess AC voltage ripple from alternator ! Suggest you take it to a ASE certified repair shop an have it checked out . If it is excess AC voltage ripple it could damage complex electronic components , engine computers ,abs modules , instrument clusters , body control modules etc.... Hope this helps .

What does static in speakers mean?

Put an oscilloscope on the Generator (Alternator)
& look for A/C Ripple

Failed Diodes & a/c riding on the dc current

You have to check all vehicle grounds,That could
take half a day

Pull fuses you don't need to use the radio

Try the radio without the motor running (no alternator)

Their may be a bad diode in the A/C wiring, near the compressor
Try without the air on

Excessive ripple in alternator

This would be a sign of leaking diodes and would require alternator replacement to rectify the problem.

2002 dodge stratus alternator problem? Charging test shows load voltage at 13.86v and load off at 13.90v . The results also say diode ripple - Ripple detected 0.46v HIGH? What does that mean?

Your not over .5 volt ac on the ripple, which
is ac leakage from the diodes

What started this issue & who is doing the testing
& how.

Don't see an issue from those numbers.

I'm having the same problem but it comes and goes. I had the altenator test and they said it was fine, It did it again this morning. run fine, then the voltage drops then goes flat, but still runs. I tap...

Have the alternator checked again, It sounds like the voltage regulator is going bad. When you have it checked voltage ripple means alternator is intermittant. Remember just because they sell auto parts does not mean they know how to turn a wrench.

If you are really thinking that the alternator is the problem have it properly tested. This will test the ripple and the output. If the ripple isn't right then that means a bad alternator. You would have to either take it to a shop to have the test done in the car or take it out and bring it into your general purpose car place, i.e. checkers. It could also be added resistance in your charge back wire to the battery.

Alternator Feedback through speakers

What kind of feed back ? Does it get louder with RPM . Ignition system can also cause this . But just to be sure have the alternator check for ac voltage ripple .

Ripple voltage is when the DC voltage varies between (for example)12.5 Volts and 13.5 Volts, and does so rapidly. Technically, an alternator produces "alternating current", (hence the name, 'Alternator') and that AC voltage is converted to DC by running the current through a bank of "diodes". Alternator Diode Check and AC Ripple Check
