Cooling system thermostat location 2000 chev 2.2

Thermostat is located at the engine end of the lower radiator hose right bellow the water pump. Drain the coolant system remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing. Remove housing then remove thermostat and install new thermostat. Reinstall housing with the two bolts and refill the cooling system. Make sure you purge the sir out of the system.

The thermostat is located under the cover that the upper radiator hose connects to on the engine, let engine cool and remove plastic cover over engine and then remove the 2 bolts that hold the thermostat cover down, replace the thermostat exactly as the old one came out, refill the system with the bleeder valve open on the top of the cover over the thermostat until coolant comes out as you fill, this bleeds our out.

Hi Bill, Open the hood and follow the top radiator hose to where it is connected to the engine. At that point you will see a domed housing which is the thermostat housing. regards John

Simply follow the top radiator hose back to the engine, the thermostat is under the water inlet (the part the top radiator hose connects to).

1. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolts.

Remove the thermostat.

To install:

1. Install the thermostat.

Install the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.

1. Install the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolt and tighten the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolt to 89 lb inches (10 Nm).
2. If equipped with an automatic transmission, install the exhaust manifold.
3. Fill the cooling system.

fill at radiator there are 2 bleeder screws 1 located on thermostat housing and 1 located to left at water pump housing. open when engine is warmed up to bleed air and refill radiater after engine cools.

Your thermostat is located under the thermostat housing, which is what the upper radiator hose clamps to on the top of your engine. Basically, you need to start with a cold engine, drain your radiator, then unclamp the upper radiator hose from the engine. Remove the bolts from the thermostat housing, and gently tap on it to remove it. clean up the mounting surfaces on both the engine and the housing, and install a new thermostat, and new gasket. tighten to proper torque, reconnect the radiator hose, then refill up the radiator and cooling system.

The thermostat on this car was made retarded. Its located real close the the exhaust below the air intake. If you trace your upper hose you will see it connects to a housing held in with 2 nuts over studs I think. Its just really hard to get to, you might need a flex head wrench to get to it.I've put off doing my cooling system because of this.
