Car was brought to a mechanic for this problem and he replaced the fuel pump. Would the need for a tune-up, spark plugs, wires, etc cause a problem only in the 35-45 mph range?

    Thanks. I'll try it.

In need of ignition tune-up. Spark plugs, wires, etc. Problem with fuel injection system, clogged fuel filter. Intake air leak, EGR system malfunctioning.

Sure, the more the throttle and the longer its open the more gas is being injected so if the spark is not there it will spotter. I think you have nothing to loose with an ignition tune-up. It'll be more economical than taking it to a mechanic and still ending up with the same problem. You should change the fuel filter also it could be clogged and there is'nt enough fuel delivered at these speeds. You can also try a fuel injector cleaning solution the kind you pour in the gas tank. This might work for you.

Could be fuel or ignition. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? I would start with a fuel pressure test.

Jerking and hesitation between 35mph and 65mph

Time to go get it diagnosed. Could be a tunup issue or cranks sensor or fuel pump. You most likely have a code stored to help diagnosing

2001 mercury grand marquis. Engine stutters or hesitates with jerking when lightly accelerating. Seems like an air, fuel, or spark delivery problem. At wide open throttle this problem is not as noticeable....

Start car and use a squirt bottle of water to wet the wires and coil, if you see it spark or run rough one or both are bad, repair the wires first as they are more common.
