To drain the radiator get a bucket first of all secone pop the hood and look down towards the bottom of the radiator on the left hand side (in some cases you might have to go under the car) you should see a small white screw looking thing this is the drain take it out and the coolant will drain

if you want to drain the heater core as well just start the car as the radiator is draining and turn the heater on full blast

    it might as long as you put the right mixture of coolant to water the mixture is 50/50 you can buy straight up coolant and mix it with water or u can buy coolant that is already mixed properly and put it right in if this doesnt help the overheating then it could be something else maybe the thermostat one way to check the thermostat it to try to turn on the a/c if the wont put out cold air then its probably the thermonstat ....hope this helped

    im sorry but i did not read your second comment right did you say you werent gettin hot air out of your heater? is this is the case then the thermostat is almost certainly the problem what is most likely happening in the case is the thermostat is stuck shut so now coolant is flowing freely..this cause the engine to overheat because the coolant cannot flow so it constantly stays hot...the heater isnt puttin out hot air because that water is stuck in the cooler part of the block and isnt getting hot you may want to get this checked out by a mechanic but i am almost certain that is the problem once again im sorry for misreading you and please disregard my last post

Mazda 626 is overheating. changed the thermostat twice in 10 weeks Both fans are working;increase temp when Accelerating.tried to bleed air from the system but this model doesn't have a bleed valve.


is coolant circulating in motor/radiator? does radiator top hose get hot when engine has been warmed up? might be water pump, not thermostat. and you do have plenty of antifreeze/coolant in radiator I'm sure.

2005 impala temp gauge not working light says overheating replaced thermostat temp sensor and bleed system. Any thoughts


Remove the radiator cap, let the car run. When the car is at temp. and the thermostat opens you should see coolant circulating in the radiator. If there is coolant flow and you know for a fact that the engine is not actually hot,(check with a laser thermometer: point the laser at the engine block and read temp.) then you more than likely have a problem with the coolant temp. sensor. Check the connections, replace the sensor.
If you do not see coolant circulating in the radiator then you have an issue with either a thermostat, water pump or possibly a blockage or at worst a problem in the head. Check the overflow with the car running, if it is steadily "blowing bubbles" in the over flow (like someone blowing bubbles into a cup with a straw) then there is compression leaking into the cooling system and there is a problem with the heads. Remove the heads and have them checked for cracks at a machine shop.
If there is no "blowing bubbles" then I would remove the thermostat, run and check for circulation in the radiator again. If it is flowing, then replace the thermostat. No flow, Check the radiator with a laser thermometer. With the car at temp. point the laser at different areas of the radiator and see if you have "cold" spots. If you do then you have blockage at the radiator. If you have consistent readings across the radiator that is not "cold" then change your water pump.

Where is the bleed valve located on a 1998 pontiac grand prix 2.8 engine? The auto parts store has never heard of a bleed valve.


Was the thermostat changed? I would suggest replacing the thermostat refill the system with new coolant and purge the air out of the system.

My temp gauge goes to the third line before fans come on and only the low fan comes on. I already replaced thermostat, engine coolant temp. sensor and radiator flush... any idea why high fans dont come on...


CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSES AND RELAYS. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.MAKE SURE ITS NOT TOO LOW BECAUSE IF COOLANT TOO LOW . BY NO COOLANT AROUND OR COOLANT SENSOR NOT SUBMERGED IN COOLANT COOLING FANS WONT TURN ON.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER. THEN ALL THE AIR IS BLEED OUT THE COOLANT.WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING, WHEN YOU DRIVE CAR AROUND.AND TURN OFF ENGINE.WHEN ENGINE OFF CAR SET FOR A WHILE KEEP CHECK ON THE COOLANT LEVEL IN COOLANT EXPANSION TANK. THE COOLANT LEVEL SHOULD BE AT THE COLD MARK IN THE EXPANSION TANK.MAKE SURE COOLANT IS IN THE EXPANSION TANK.IF NOT AIR WILL DRAW IN COOLANT SYSTEM. WELL YOU NEED TO DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT LEVEL.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR LOOSEN AIRDUCT 2 LARGE CLAMPS LOOSEN REMOVE 4 SCREWS TO AIR FILTER COVER LIFT UP REMOVE COVER. THEN REMOVE AIR FILTER AND HOUSING, FIRST DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE AND SHIFT CABLE.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COOLANT HOSES DISCONNECT IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR AND DISCONNECT TPS SENSOR CONNECTOR. THEN REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. I have a 2000 silhouette. the coolant level low light keeps coming on even though coolant has been added. after about 10 minutes of idling the temp rises to just below h.but temp is fine while driving....


Bleed the air out of the coolant system,and add more coolant,to radiator,and reservoir,and make sure the cooling fans are coming on,if the low coolant light stays on,remove the low coolant light sensor,and clean it off,it is located on passengers side in the radiator,it has a wire clip you have to remove,and dont loose it,after cleaning it,put the clip back on the sensor,and push the sensor back in the hole.

2004 hyundai sante fe is making coolant boil back into the radiator reservoir.I"ve replaced the top radiator hose,thermostat,removed the alternator to check the water pump,no leaks.The fans are not coming...


I take it this only happens when the vehicle is stopped & idling? If not, check radiator & hoses for blockage (since you've already replaced the thermostat & top hose) - repair/replace as needed. Next, check the coolant temperature sensor's operation (there are two sensors - one for the temp gauge on the instrument panel, the other is used by the ECM (PCM). If that one is malfunctioning (i.e., telling the computer that the engine coolant temperature is less than it actually is, The ECM (PCM) it won't turn on the cooling fans.
Since you didn't specify which engine you have (i.e., 2.4, 2.6 or 3.5), Photo locations of all three are included here.

If your guessing the thermostat, I think your guessing right. Easy job to replace it, use a fail safe thermostat next time to avoid this problem in the future. Good luck.

Sounds like you need to bleed the air out of the radiator. If you already did that, there next thing might be a faulty coolant temperature sensor on the radiator or a loose connection from the coolant sensor to the radiator fan. The coolant temperature sensor turns on the radiator fan when it reaches a certain temperature.

1. Bleed the air out of the radiator.
2. Make sure the radiator fan is turning on.
3. Check for a faulty coolant sensor.
