    1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
    2. Remove the rear seat.
    3. Remove the fuel pump cover.
    4. Label and disconnect the electrical harness.
    5. Label and disconnect the fuel hoses.
NOTE: One hose is a high pressure fuel input hose and the other is a low pressure return hose. Different hose clamps are used on each of the hoses.

    6. Matchmark the locking ring with the body for installation reference. This is to prevent overtightening of the locking ring.
    7. Remove the locking ring using a special lock ring tool.
NOTE: It may be possible to use a large set of locking jaw pliers to loosen the lock ring. However, extreme caution must be used to not damage the plastic ring or strip the plastic threads.

    8. Remove the fuel pump and sending unit from the fuel tank.
      To install:

    9. Inspect the sealing gasket and replace if damaged.
    10. Install the fuel pump and sending unit in the fuel tank.
    11. Install the locking ring by hand and tighten using a special lock ring tool.
NOTE: It may be possible to use a large set of locking jaw pliers to tighten the lock ring. However, extreme caution must be used to not damage the plastic ring or strip the plastic threads. Tighten the locking ring until the matchmarks align.

    12. Connect the fuel hoses using the proper hose clamps for the high pressure and low pressure hoses.
    13. Connect the electrical harness.
    14. Install the fuel pump cover.
    15. Install the rear seat.

I own a 1994 Nissan Altima. It run out of gas an I had getting it to fire up. Once I got it cranked it maybe drove 150 yards spit an sputtered an then died. Now I can't get it to start at all.

possibly the fuel pump. fuel running thru the pump is what keeps the pump cool. if it runs out of gas it will get too hot and fry the pump. running one out of fuel causes a lot of pumps to go bad. id start by checking fuel pressure

How to change a fuel pupmp in a 1994 nissian altima

once you have access to the fuel pump, there is a cover that comes off...usually 4 bolts, then you will have access to the gas tank. Nissan is great for fuel pump replacements, you don't have to drop the tank. anyways, once the access panel is removed you will see the tank, and the wiring that goes to the fuel pump. the pump/sending unit is held in by 8 or 10 small screws. once he cleans the area he will see this easier. these can be a pain so tell him to take his time and get a good grip on the screws so he doesn't strip them. be careful removing/installing, these are fragile items. good luck with this, its real easy and you will be satisfied that you did the work yourself. let me know the outcome.

Fuel Pump

You might not have to change the pump at all. Get the fuel filter cleaned thoroughly, change it if required(its quite reasonably priced) and since this has MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) engine, either clean it by adding some nozzle clearing fluid or get the nozzles properly cleaned at a authorized service station, where they can connect it to a PC to check the status of the tiny holes of the injector nozzle.............................sodeep
