SOURCE: I have a 93 chevy

IM not sue if this is electric or pump running off the engine, a model # on the plow would off helped alot. this may caused by a bad ground or connection, check the plugs and see if there a broken pin, the pump may be pumping but no valves are opening or like you said maybe the pump gear sheared but i would check the pins in the plugs first as this is common, you will need to take a good look for missing pin, and check valve operation, a bad ground wire would cause this also by keeping valves fron opening.

When I raise the plow it chatters Righ to left is fine

If you already haven't check the fluid level with the plow on the ground.

Mine is usually low when it chatters in up mode.
Both Western, meyers and hinicker do this.

Western plow will not go left

There is a hydraulic block/valve. Replace it.

Plow lifts great when cold gets weaker and weaker as it warms up. could it be as simple as the fluid is to thin?

  • Oil viscosity is dropping as oil warms up. Check that plow stays in up position. If plow creeps down than a leak by the piston seal or manifold valve is likely.
  • Check for contamination in tank. Suspect pump has worn and is loosing pump efficiency. Metal particles in tank are an indication pump is failing.
  • There may be a repair kit available. Make sure that system is completely clean.
  • Only use pump manufactures recommended fluid.
  • Install a pressure gauge on pump.
  • There is a pressure relief valve in the system. Ck if contamination is holding it open or spring/valve seal is bad.

While driving down road my western snow plow is rocking all over.

not good or safe! check all mounting pins and frame mounts. A lot of force is on snow plows and the frame mounts often need to be welded up. I imagine it is the whole unit and not just the plow.

My western unimount plow is stuck in the up postion. it will go down

If you mean it will not go down it is either your switch in the truck or it can possibly be the valve in the system either not working may just be sticking or it could be that its not getting the switches call to change . This is something you will have to hunt down Good Luck. If you are going to plow best learn now how to deal with al of this as it is rough on a truck

I have a 93 chevy with a western unimount. was plowing and now the motor runs, but wont lift or angle. possibly something sheared off in the pump? fluid is full, and no visible leaks.

If you have a Western Plow ISARMATIC pump, a very common problem is ice forming on your pump pickup screen. This will cause intermittent up/down AND left/right functions. Western recommends the fluid be changed annually and I agree. Here's what it looks like after dirt and moisture form on the pump screen. Thats an ice chunk below the screen that appears to be a hump in the case. Be sure to verify that the pump motor is actually spinning before you suspect the pump screen. b7cfa544-07c8-441e-a344-3d5d97b0b2b0.jpg
