2001 Dodge Dakota randomly wont start

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9 engine manual tran.. It randomly does not start.. it is almost always in the morning and usually or always when it has rained or snowed.. one time it has not started at 3 pm in afternoon after sitting all day at work. yes it was raining..Heres what i have replaced. Fuel pump, spark plugs , wires, distributor cap, rotor, and PCM..... last night as i came out to work .. it was raining.. and it did not start. It wll alwys eventually start after continual attempts.. the starter turns over fine.. but tahts all it does.. then .. somewhere between 10 - 30 min of continiual trying.. the engine starts to want to turn over.. i can hear it as the starter is goin.. then it turns into a chug.. as if the engine is starving for fuel.. then the next time i try to start it. is enough with me pumping the gas.. it starts.. Once started.. it will keep restarting the rest of the day... its only after sittin long times ei overnight and for some reason moisture is a constant variable... Do you think the crankshaft position sensor is a good thing to replace? or do you have ANY other ideas.. im soooo frustrated not knowing when i go out.. is it goin to start or not...Thanks

You may want to go to a parts place and have them plug one of those meters for a check engine light in the port and see if a code will come up .

your fuel pump may not be supplying the correct amount of pressure, this is pretty much a trait of Dodge, it will click and make noise, but the pressure just isn't there, spray some starter fluid into the air cleaner system, and turn it over, if it starts this is your problem

2001 dodge dakota stalls when put in reverse on first start up of the day. If put in drive it runs and drives fine and also after truck is driven and warms up it will go in reverse just fine. ...

Not saying this is your problem but I had a ram 1500 5.9l gas do the same thing would start and die as soon as I put it in drive but would run fine in reverse after doing all kinds of trans testing it ended up being the crank sensor still doesn't make sense to me but it would back fire and carry on in drive changed sensor and runs great and better fuel mileage

01 Dakota; 5.9 auto. Trans. won't drive in drive,

You need to check for codes to see if a sensor in the transmission is at fault, The first step is always checking for codes if you havn't yet.

Changing from 98 2.5 man.tranny,to 01 3.9

WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?
