Question about 1995 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

Shifter broken our email is David_Diehl@juno.com I have a 1995 Chevy C1500 and the shifter is broken on an automatic, not a manual. What can I do to fix it> I read this question and answer but this is a manual. If it is a standard shift the shift linkage is broken and must be repaired. Get a Haynes repair manual it will walk you through step by step exactly how to disassemble the shifter linkage

SOURCE: I have a 1990 chevy cavalier with a automatic trans.

You Will have to Disassemble the Center Console and Get to the Shifter. It is the Linkage attached to the Side Bottom of the Shiter.

SOURCE: Code Reader reads Shifter Solenoid Stuck or Off

The Shift solenoids are located in the transmission oil pan. I would recommend replacing both shift solenoids while you're in there. Also replace the filter and pan gasket. The shift solenoids are located towards the rear of the valvebody and will be identical to each other. They are held in place by a retaining clip which is easily removed with a small screwdriver or similar tool. Care must be taken as parts may fly out of the bore when the solenoids are removed. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: shifter linkage came apart from transmission shift arm

I had the same problem and also linkage inside the car. I took ball joint apart and cleaned the surface then put silicone inside ball joint. Joined the two together then I put plastic tie wraps for wiring around the ball joints, two per ball joint. Let sit for 24 hours and it worked. It is probably temporary but it got me out of a $165 an hour repair job 500 miles from home. Hope this works for you as it tightens up the linkage and worked great. CW

1995 gmc sierra 4x4 shifter wont go in 4 wheel drive but will go in 4 low

my name is michael. You said it will go into 4 low but not into 4 hi. Have you lifted the truck to see if it is operational? Does your 4x4 light come on? Does it grind into either 4 hi or low? And one thing, has anyone ever taken the axle out on the right hand side? Please feel free to email me at MOFRACKY1@hotmail.com.

You will have to find out what you broke. It may be the cable, or the actual shifter. If you can shift it manually at the trans, you may not have broken anything too major.

Where is the neutral safety switch no a chevy c1500 transmission

Generally on GMs, if it's a column shift, it's down low on the steering column under the dash, and if it is a floor shift, it is at the base of the shifter, under the shifter housing. Look for purple wires or a purple wire and a yellow wire. I don't know what year your truck is. Hope this helps!
