Question about 1994 Chevrolet K1500

1994 Silverado died and has no spark or fuel.

I have a 1994 chevy K-1500 with 5.7 and auto transmission. It died on me while driving. It didn't sputter or anything it just died. It will crank but not start. After I towed it home I found that it has no spark or fuel. I have power to the ignition control module and I've changed the ignition control module with a new one. It still does not have spark or fuel. I have checked all the fuses. I performed the electrical tests on the coil per the Haynes manual and it checks out. Coil wire has 2.5K ohms resistance. Pick up coil? ECM? What?

Does your check engine light illuminate in the run position, key on engine off? It should do a "bulb check" by illuminating key on engine off. If it does, now would be a good time to scan it for trouble codes. If it does not illuminate, and you cannot communicate with the ecm/pcm with a scan tool, you need to start by locating a wiring diagram of your ecm, or pcm, whichever it contains. Once you've located a wiring diagram its time to find your ecm/pcm, remove the electrical connector and start checking your powers and grounds to the ecm/pcm. Use a test light that has a significant amp draw to test your power feeds, an ohm meter can deceive you by showing 12v, but that wire may be cracked and full of corrosion, preventing sufficient current flow. You can use this same method to test the integrity of your ecm/pcm grounds by connecting the end of your test light to positive battery voltage, and touching the tip to the ground pins of the connector. If you have good power and grounds, the fault lies within the ecm/pcm.

    Yes the light is illuminated during key on/engine off. I don't have a scan tool to pull codes so I'll start looking around for one.

    when you say you have no fuel, do you mean fuel pressure, or do you mean no injector fire? If you have fuel pressure, but no injector pulse, coupled with no spark than it may be a good idea to start looking at your crankshaft position sensor, and its wiring.

    My mistake, a 94 does not have a crankshaft position sensor, you may want to ohm test the pickup coil.

    pickup coil test coming up tomorrow. by no fuel I mean no injector pulses but I have fuel pressure. I gave up for the day to watch the Alamo Bowl. I'll pick up on the pick up's pick up coil in the morning.

    pickup coil test yielded 768 ohms, in spec. Truck fired up today. It made it about 100 feet before it died. 45 min later it started and ran but had a miss under load. Starts up every time now. Still has miss under load. I'm stumped.

I have problem with coil not working. In the morning,car with not start, but if I run a wire from battery to (+) to coil (+) will start. the rest of day no problem,car will start. but next morning same problem no spark from coil. c

Does the Van Crank over?
Have you checked the IGN Relays? 1,2,and 3?
How did the Battery test out?
Anything below 11.9v battery is dead.
So I suggest that you do not throw any more parts and check the battery again.

There may be no injector pulse if the computor does not see a RPM signal.
There will be no spark if the ignition module does not see a dist pulse from the dist pickup.......a RPM signal.
Because you do not have both ......I would suggest to check/change the dist pick up.
Follow the wires from the ignition module inside the dist to the pickup which is also inside the dist.
If it is just a bad dist pickup....keep all your old parts as good spares.
Also...is the dist turning? to provide a RPM signal?
You will have to remove the dist to change the pick-up.....mark your timing locations......"rotor position" and "dist body location"before removal.
A quick test before installing the "repaired dist" .....plug it in the the truck wiring and turn on the key....DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DIST ROTOR CORRECT POSITION......as you spin the dist by hand .....the injectors should spray.

Yes. First, in the fuse block under the hood check INJ A fuse and INJ B fuse. INJ A fuse is circuit 1039 which feeds the coil. If the fuse is OK, replace the coil electrical connector. I stock 2 of these at my dealership because they are needed quite often.
FYI P1351 is an ignition coil control circuit DTC.

What engine does your truck have ? does it have The Central Sequential Fuel Injection (Central SFI) (4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L) ? Is your fuel pressure with in (60-66 psi). if not , will not start . could have been out of timing could also be fuel pump fuel filters. chevy are very bad about fuel pumps have you checked to see if its getting spark or even checked the fuel pump

My 2002 chevy silverado 1500 series died on me while i was driving .I managed to coast it to the side of the road.When i tried to start it, it would die after 5 secods.Any hints on what is the problem


Could be eletical or fuel related. if it is running rough, it could be bad spark plug cables, or weak charging system, bad alternater. if power system is ok. Then i would think feul pump.

If it were only simple. It sounds like an ignition module. They can act up with heat, and are located under your distibutor cap, or if you have coil packs, it's the plate under them. You might try to see what is going away, as in spark or fuel when it dies. Carry a spark tester, if it dies, throw it on a plug wire and ground it quick and turn it over to look for spark. (Or have someone watch)

to 94 chevy have you checked fuel pump? car must be turned off . With key in off position turn key to acc position, radio must be turned off. when key is in acc position you should hear small hum for about 15 to20 sec then it shuts off .This means fuel pump is working. This should happen every time you turn the key switch. If you have pump noise, I would look under the distributor there are two sets of wires that is your spark modulator . remove distributor cap 2 screws on driver side removes it take it to autozona/ checker auto and they will check it
