went to the dealer and they did not know of a sensor or relay

  • hydacsps Aug 31, 2015

I found the relays and what I think is the sensor that is mentioned but can only find the relay for sale.

What did you do to fix this same problem I have?

Check the sensors that tell the relay to shut off when the lights close down all the way. This is a fairly common problem especially if this has never been replaced before.

That is really funny. There is a sensor in the body of the headlight that tells the relay which the car has to have to otherwise you will have this problem. Behind the headlights you will see wires running. Follow those wires about 3/4s of the way back and you will see that it runs into a relay.. It is easier to get at that then it is to get at the sensorhttp://www.corvetteguys.com/corvette-lig...
Here is a website they are calling it a Light module

You have to remove the motor from the door move it half a turn in the open position and then reassemble. so the door stops moving before it reches the end of the gear on the motor. What your hereing is the motor skiping past the end of the gear.

Headlight on 1985 corvette

Head lights have a reed switch built into the unit. if a gear is stripped / missing a tooth the headlights will continue to run. You can replace the gears for around $50.00 for a set. I would go with the , metal gears for the few dollars more, especially in cold climates where there is snow.
