Question about 2004 Buick Rendezvous

Rear rotors I am trying to replace the rear brake rotors and pads. I have removed the caliper and have lined up the hole in the rotor to the emergency brake adjuster. I turned the adjuster and tightened the brakes, then I turned the adjuster the other way until it stopped and the rotor still will not come off. Do you have any suggestions?

If the wheel spins freely,just use some penetrating oil and a big hammer.

Can you post some pics? The screws on the rotor are there to hold things together while the vehicle is assembled. If there are bolts/screws holding the rotor to the hub they do not need to be reinstalled. However I think you may have other issues. Can you turn the rotor without the wheel on by hand with the crew tight? A you sure you have the right parts?

  • From what you are stating about having to remove the brake line to bleed your brakes even with the bleeder valve wide open sounds like you have a restricted brake line OR a bad caliper or possibly both.
  • When brake lines get restricted the pads will drag and heat up the rotor and pads for that matter.
  • A caliper that is not letting the brake fluid through will cause this also.
  • You may be getting a slight pull to one side when braking as well as when accelerating from a complete stop.
  • If you pulled the brake line off the caliper and the fluid moved well then the caliper is at fault.
  • If you pulled the brake line off the caliper and brake fluid did not move that well then the brake line is at fault.
  • One of them two is your problem.

SOURCE: removing front brake calipers to chage brake pads

remove the BOTTOM 15mm caliper bolt lift the caliper up and slide off
then remover the 2 15mm bolts holding the caliper housing on
remove the brake rotor (you may have to hit it with a hamer to break it free
depending on the brake pads you got some come with new sliders
remove the sliders clean the rust build up then install new sliders
lube the sliders install the pads
install new rotor
install the caliper housing with the 2 15mm bolts
install the caliper and lube both caliper pins with silicone lube
install wheels
PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TILL IT GETS HARD WITHOUT ENGINE RUNNING

rust around the center hole fused to the hub is causing your problem. If the rotor is to be replaced, hammer on the rotor to loosen. If you are to have the rotor machined use WD40 to loosen the rust

Replacing pads and rotor


Front and back rotors are different. For front rotors, after you remove the wheel you need to remove the bolts holding the caliper to the mounting spindle. The bolt can be a standard 6 face head, a recessed hex, or even a torx or star head recessed bolt.

With bolts removed, the caliper can be worked away from the anti-rattle clips the caliper slides on. These clips are called "hardware" and should be replaced.

The caliper pistons need to be pressed back into position because the new pads are thicker than what you removed. The calipers should be tied and suspended and not allowed to hang by their brake lines while you work with the rotors. Use a "c" clamp and an old brake pad to press the pistons back in. Sometimes it is good to remove the cap on the Master cylinder to allow for brake fluid to travel back to the Master.

Either replace or turn the old rotors and then put the brake hardware in place. Lube the caliper slides. then as a unit position the pads into the caliper and hang the caliper over the rotor. The caliper will hang and pivot into place. Replace and tighten the mounting bolts.

The rear brakes are more of a problem due to a second set of Emergency brakes in rear assemblies. So you have 2 sets of rear brakes, the Emergencies requiring clearance to remove the rear rotors. Some car models require readjustment of the Emergency cables before reassembly.

In all, I would suggest that you be an observer for your first brake job. At least get a Video of the process at a number of autoparts stores. You can wind up with a car you can not drive or reassemble without help.

How to replace rear brake pads on 2002 buick rendevous


Those are special calipers. The piston cannot be just compressed back into the caliper - it needs to be turned as it is compressed or you can ruin the caliper.There is a kit you can rent from AutoZone or many independent auto parts stores that will perform both functions at the same time.
Block fron wheels and raise vehicle passenger side. Remove wheel. The caliper is on the top rear side of the assembly you're looking at.There are 2 long bolts you'll need to remove to take the caliper off the vehicle. Don't remove the brake line or open the bleeder screw ( either of these moves will add to your work!! ) Insert a large flat blade screwdriver in between the rotor and outboard brake pad and pry away from the vehicle slightly to release the pads from the rotor. Slide caliper upwards and towards the back of the vehicle to separate from rotor. The pads will come in a full set ( all 4 pads for both side of the rear ) . Look at your replacement pads and determine if they have a retainer clip holding them in place or a compression clip. Remove outboard pad first then inboard. Match old pads to replacement pads. Inspect rotor for grooves and irregular surfaces - if any grooves or irregularity present, remove rotor and take to an auto parts store for refinishing.Compress caliper piston with kit and allow 5 minutes for pressure to bleed back into the master cylinder.install rotor if removed and wipe surfaces with brake clean. Install inboard then outboard pad and place caliper on rotor, then mount to vehicle. Install wheel, repeat procedure for drivers side, then PUMP BRAKE PEDAL 5 TIMES BEFORE TRYING TO DRIVE VEHICLE to set pads on rotors.

Replace rear brake pads 2006 Chevy Impala


Hello, to replace the rear brake pads follow the following steps:

1. Lift the Chevy Impala with the jack and place it on jack stands.
2. Remove the wheels with a lug-nut wrench and set them aside. The lug-nut wrench can be found in the trunk of your Chevy Impala.
3. Remove the caliper with a ratchet and use a bungee cord to hang the caliper. Do not let the caliper hang from the brake hose, as the hose might break and cause fluid to leak.

4. Remove the brake caliper bracket from the steering knuckle with a ratchet. Set it aside.

5. Remove the break rotor from the hub. The rotor might require force to be removed; if it does, use a hammer to hit the rotor in the center, where the lug studs are located. Take care not to hit the studs.

6. Remove the new rotor from its packaging and use brake cleaner to remove the grease from the rotor. Grease is applied on the rotor in the factory to inhibit rust during storage.

7. Install the new rotor onto the hub.

8. Install the caliper bracket with new brake pads onto the rotor and fasten it to the steering knuckle. Use a ratchet to tighten the bolts.
9. Open the master cylinder reservoir so you don't break a seal while compressing the brake caliper.

10. Compress the brake caliper with a C-clamp, so that the caliper can fit over the new brake pads. Install the caliper by securing it to the brake caliper bracket with a ratchet.

How do you remove the front brake rotor on a 2005 Pontiac Vibe?


To remove the brake rotor, you must first remove the brake pads and caliper. There are two bolts that hold the brake caliper in place. Remove the two bolts and tie the caliper up out of the way. Be careful not to break the brake line connected to the back of caliper. Once the caliper is removed, simply slide the rotor off. To install a new rotor, simply slide rotor over studs and replace the caliper with new brake pads. It is as simple as that.

Replace rear brake pads


Rear disc brake pads offer better performance and are not as affected by moisture like conventional brake shoe style brakes are. Rear disc brakes are similar to front disc brakes. The main difference is that rear disc brake systems must incorporate the emergency brake system. There are two methods widely used for the emergency brake with rear disc systems. The first system is a brake shoe inside the brake disc that is actuated by the emergency brake lever. The second is a screw style actuator inside the brake caliper. When activated the brake pads are forced into the brake disc and held tightly by the emergency brake lever.
READ COMPLETELY BEFORE STARTING
Step 1 - Identify Rear Disc Brake Components

Step 2 - Removing the Rear Brake Caliper Mount Bolts

Step 3 - Lift Rear Brake Caliper from The Caliper Mount
rear_brake_pads_3.jpg After the caliper mount bolts have been removed, gently lift the brake caliper from the caliper mount. Inspect the caliper slides; they should move freely in the caliper mount. Remove rear brake pads and hardware.

Step 4 - Removing Caliper Mount Bolts
rear_brake_pads_4.jpg With a socket wrench or other appropriate removal tool, loosen the rear brake caliper mounting bolts. Remove bolts and lift the caliper mount and remove it from the vehicle. Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole. Tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub holding on tightly, using both hands. You do not want to drop the rotor.

Step 5 - Removing Rear Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor.jpg Remove the retaining screw from the disc mounting hole, tap the rotor gently to release any rust that has accumulated between the rotor and bearing hub. Lift brake rotor from wheel hub, hold on using both hands and do not drop.

Step 6 - Install New Brake Rotor
rear_brake_rotor_2.jpg Check the new rotor against the old brake rotor to make sure they are the same size. Clean the mating surface on the wheel hub before the new brake rotor is installed. Reinstall rotor retainer screw.
Step 7 - Reset Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brakes_7.jpg Before new brake pads can be installed, the rear brake caliper must be reset. The reset tool winds the piston back into position so the new brake pads will fit. This style of brake caliper will not compress with a clamp tool; it can only be reset with the proper reset tool.
Step 8 - Reinstall Rear Caliper Mount and Install New Rear Brake Pads
rear_brake_rotor_3.jpg After the caliper has been reset, reinstall caliper mounting bolts and make sure the bolts are tight. Then match up the old brake pads to the new brake pads. They should be exactly the same except, of course; the old ones will be worn out. Check the new brake pads for proper fit and install any brake hardware that is required.
Step 9 - Remount Rear Brake Caliper
rear_brake_rotor_4.jpg Reinstall the brake caliper, align brake pad hardware and reinstall caliper mounting bolts. (Note: align the rear peg of the brake pad to the groove in the caliper piston.) Recheck and retighten all caliper and caliper mount bolts. Bleed brake system to relieve any air in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly. This operation forces the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors. DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE until proper brake pedal operation resumes. When test driving vehicle listen for any unusual noises during the operation of the brakes.
WARNING! Always have the vehicle under inspection on level ground, in park with the emergency brake on. Always wear protective eyewear, gloves and necessary clothing before inspection or work begins. Never crank an engine over when anyone is near the battery or engine. Always have an operational fire extinguisher close by, obey all first aid instructions in the event of an injury. Never stand in front or behind a vehicle when cranked over or running. When engine is cranked over keep hands and clothing away from rotating components. Never move a car without proper brake pedal operation.

find out what tool you need to remove bolts for the caliper(2) once you get the bolts out remove caliper. next step remove old pads.then you will need a c clamp to compress piston on the caliper back in then get new pads and install them on caliper easy fix reinstall caliper on to rotor and put bolts back in just observe how the caliper came off

raise support vechicle safely.if you see no guide pins.mark the position of the wheel on the hub.then remove the wheel.remove caliper and pads.do not disconnect brake line to caliper.use a piece of wire to hang caliper out the way dont let caliper hang by brake hose.it could damage it.to remove brake disk to have to locate the mounting stud or pin to remove disk.when you locate the stud or pin that hold the disk in place.remove brake disk.make sure parking brake is off or it will be hard to remove brake rotor.when installing new brake rotor make sure the holes is the same as the old one or it will not fit.now if you want pictures you have to buy a haynes repair manual.

Rear brakes on 2005 F150


You can't remove the rotors because the emergency brake is tight on the inside of the rotors. Make sure it's not engaged when you are working on the rear brakes. Block the front tires for saftey. Then you have to remove the rear calipers from the mounting brackets, there are two bolts that hold the calipers on. Make sure you hang the calipers securily with some wire so you don't damage the rubber brake line hose. Then you need to adjust the emergency parking brake shoes in order to remove the rotors. Theres a rubber plug on the backside of the rear hubs, once you look at the back of the hub you'll see the plug. It's on the top. Once you take out the plug, you need to use a screw driver to turn the star spindel. You need to turn the star spindel counter-clockwise in order to give yourself enough clearance to remove the rotors. The beauty of this design is that ford incorporated a drum and caliper system together, but it's difficult to take off the rotors if the emergency brake shoes are to tight. The inside of the rotors acts as the drums for the emergency brake system. I've done this and it's not that hard, but, I did have to replace the emergency brake shoes because they were worn out and the shoes fell off the metal backing plates when I finally got the rotors to come off. They only glued these shoes onto the backing plates, they don't rivet them so take your time getting the rotors off or you can damage the emergency brake shoes, but if you do they are cheap at napa. My service guide says to install the new rotors, use a couple of lug nuts to hold it on, then adjust the star spindal for the emergency brake all the way clockwise until you can't turn it anymore, then you must back it off 8 clicks counter-clockwise. Make sure the emergency brake is not engaged when you are doing this, the 8 clicks backwards compensates for when you do engage the parking brake because the shoes expands outwards. This adjustment sets the emergency brakes so they work properly. Once the emergency brake is properly set you can't remove the rear rotors, which is what your initial problem is. Then install the rubber plug back in the hole, put on the new pads and calipers and you're good to go.
