SOURCE: check engine

hi notcarsmart
im dave

there is a common problem with this generation jetta. on the crankcase ventillation system you will find a y-shaped piece of rubber that is prone to disintergration and leaks. check it out and if that is the problem replace it. to reset the light (and you should try to keep this in mind for future use as most of the time that the check engine light(MIL) comes on in these vehicles there is nothing wrong and no codes stored) park the car with the engine running. Open the drivers side door and remove the fuse box panel cover. You will see a series of fuses in there but you need only to focus on the mini ones on top. The fuse you need to pull is the third row down from the top in the centre and is a 10 amp fuse (i believe it is marked as MIL on the fuse directory). Pull it out with the car running. The car will stall out but that is perfectly ok...no harm done. Re-insert the fuse close the panel and restart the engine. The yellow light of doom should now be out. If the light comes on again rather quickly there is probably a fault code stored. Everyone who owns a VW should own their own OBD(On-Board Diagnostics) tool. www.obdtool.com has one specifically for VW's from 1996 to present for around $75.00 and an optional software upgrade for a little more. It only requires that you own a computer to use it (which I believe most people have nowadays). A shop charges you for each time they pull your codes so the first time you use it will pay for itself. Also if you have friends/acquaintances with VW's im sure they'd rather give you $30-40 dollars to pull the codes than give a shop $80. And you can reset the light with the tool. Another more unlikely cause of your light and shake is the MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor but you would need the diagnostic tool to check or swap it with another Jetta owners known good MAF sensor.

The flashing is telling you that the engine is mis-firing, the dealer will run a test to determine the cylinder that is mis-firing, chances are it is something simple

The engine light is on. There are one or more codes stored inside the ECU. You need to have the codes read by a large Auto Part store (call first to check that they read engine codes) or by a mechanic, or a Ford Dealership (which do charge a fee). This issue could be as simple as a loose or defective gas cap. It could be a warning that the ECU has identified a problem. Have it looked at as soon as possible. If you have more questions or details please write back, good luck.

THE ENGINE STARTS SHAKING WHEN I START THE A/C, BUT WITH A/C OFF, THE ENGINE RUNNING SMOOTHLY.

hi.
i had the same problem on my ford galaxy and found that the a/c pump had seized.
th engine was shaking as the belt was slipping and the engine was on the verge of stalling.
i was very lucky not to snap the belt.

i do not know if you have the same problem, but i would check the a/c compressor before trying to use the air con again.

The truck start shaking & show me a light that said check engine soon

When "check engine" turn on, one or more fault codes are stored in the PCM; I suggest scanned the PCM (computer) to know exactly what fault codes there. With this code numbers go back and could send you additional details.

Keep in touch.

never heard of a 4.7 are sure its not a 4.6 anyway if check engine light is on it knows what your problem is just drive it over to a auto zone or advance auto parts and they will pull the codes for you for free. that is the best place to start chances are one or more of your plugs or coils are acting up.

ENGINE WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON

The engine warning light is a lot more sensitive then people think. It can be set off with as little as leaving the gas cap off or loose. If your engine light is flashing then this is a bad thing, if it just stays on all the time then it is probably realted to emissions such as an o2 sensor, map sensor, etc. You have a couple of options you can go to a Auto parts store like Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts and they will pull the code out of your cars computer for free and tell you what the code means or, you can reset this code yourself by disconnecting the negative side of your cars battery, must be the negative side, for at least 5 minutes then reconnect. This will clear the code and the engine light will go off. The light may come back on shortly after doing so. If it does not then one of the sensors probably picked up some trash on it making the check engine light come on. Good Luck and I hope this was helpful info.

Ford galaxy 1996 v6 ghia x warning light at temp gauge flashes all the time

If this is a red flashing light beneath the temperature guage it means that you do not have enough coolant. Top up the large white ball shaped reservior at the right hand side of the engine compartment just behind the battery.

Engine check warning light

Take the vehicle to your local auto parts store and have them read the check engine light code for you and then you can bring that back here and someone will be able to help you figure out what is going on. Just because you can't tell what it is right now doesn't mean that something isn't going bad very soon. Let us know. Thanks for using FixYa!

Service Engine Soon Light

On all cars and trucks that are 1996 or newer they have a system called obd2 and the computer monitors anything thats plugged into it like sensors. The light is on because your computer has found a problem with 1 or more of them. If you want to know what area is having a problem you need to have the codes read by a obd2 scanner or code reader some auto part stores do this for free or oil
change store or mechanic shop
