Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora
Problem just started. Tried starting in zero below weather. Engine kept knocking failing to start. once started it ran at varying from2500-3500 rpm. check light started blinking and minor smoke came from engine smelling like oil, maybe blowing out gasket from hard misfires?
Sorry absolutely no idea with my head under the bonnet -hood- Now has the opil been changed regular like every 5/6000 miles if its gungy and old then chances are you have knocked a big end out or two ,best advice is to trade it in quick whilst it still runs

Low pressure when at idle, after the engine has warmed up and the oil has thinned, indicates that the oil pump is worn and needs to be replaced.

oil pan and sump damage are very likely to lead to oil distribution problems, this is not temporary, if you hear a knock have it checked by a local mechanic who can verify it for you, it is possible that the engine is damaged internally.

SOURCE: Smoke comes from around engine
If you saw where the oil came out then that is the repair needed. It may not leak enough oil to get to the ground. Engine temp will make the oil leak smoke before it ever hits the ground. It may be valve cover gaskets because when they start to leak the oil gets all over the exhaust manifold and the exhaust manifold runs very hot. Rate if this helps

When a catalyst damaging problem occurs the check engine annunciator will flash and the vehicles computer (pcm) will shut down a cylinder. This flashing light and rough idle is a warning. Usually prolonged engine operation with flashing annunciator will ruin the catalytic converter. ($400.00++ to replace) Important that problem is fixed before operation of engine is continued. Check the ignition leads in the back (right side) for chaffe damage or burns from exhaust collector. Could also be a mechanical problem. Do a compression check. Start there. How many miles on vehicle.
