1999 chevy s10 sloppy shifter

This morning, my shifter is sloppy particularly in 1st and third. Is this something that can be fixed by tightening a bolt or mount or is this something from within the transmission assembly? I am hoping I can fix it myself.

No problem then just look at the linkage layout ,now i have never seen this vehicle to be honest but i beleave in the motto if it has a engine i will fix it ,now determine what sort of linkage you have then go from their ,now their are two types on most cars with front wheel drive and thats cables and rods ,so have a good look under their then decide as rods often get a worn cup connection and cables can also have a worn retaining clip or the outer cable seperates ,So i suggest you go outside and have a good look then anything your not sure off i will help the best i can .taking and uploading a pic would help greatly

Yes it screws in on right side of tramission and you will need a 7/8 inch deep socket to remove it. You may be able to clean the old one once it is removed. There is a little ball thatgets dirty and may you can get by with cleaning it. Good Luck. Ed

SOURCE: 1999 Buick Park Avenue water pump removal

The bolt holding you up is on the bottom by the compressor, right? You Will have to have an inverted torx socket to remove the studs. Also there is a spacer behind the mount bracket, remember where it goes. You will have to pull the pully bolts and get it out of the way too. Some of those cars have plastic elbows going from the intake to the water pump, be carefull with it. Your motor may not have this but be ready to replace it if it does because it will most likley break. Good Luck.

Manual or automatic? Both have bushings. Automatics, you may have a hard time finding them.

Will a new shifter fix a problem where the old shifter will not stay in reverse?

Sounds more like a linkage issue. Try tightening the linkage links, replacing any loose bushings. (The detents, or stopping points, on the shift lever have little do do with the shift lever.)

How do you tighten gear lever on cortina 1600e thanks

Inspect Linkage between shifter and transmission. Determine where the sloppy looseness is. Replace sloppy linkage parts if transmission lever is not loose. Pray you don't need to have shifter leverage (inside transmission) repaired.

is the shifter sloppy? if so the isolator bushing is worn out and allowing the stick to move farther than the actual shifter which would cause the gears to not fully mesh

Where do the wires go on the alternator on a 1999 chevy s10.

There is one Battery terminal on the back of the unit, this should be insulated and have a nut on it. Usualy takes a 12mm wrench. There should be a Red wire with a similar size terminal, with a black boot, to cover the terminal. There should be a Black wire with a larger terminal on it, This wire should be bolted onto one of the rear mounting bolts. This terminal is considerably larger and the alternator mounting bolt should go through this terminal. The third wire is rather small and should have a quick connect terminal that should plug into a socket in the back of the unit. This followiing web site has pictures of the quick connect terminal, and alternator. If you click on one of the alternator, you can see the back of the alternator. The shiny terminal is the battery terminal. Do not over tighten this terminal as you can break this off.

1994 chevy s10 .. moter swapped to carburated and

Actually, I recommend putting an after-market ratchet shifter on the transmission. This sounds weird, but we purposely cut the TPS out of my TH350 for street / strip racing. A ratchet B&M shifter or something similar will work, but it makes destination driving (I.E groceries, family, etc) a bit more of a pain.
