Just driving it and it lost power and quit. will not restart. not ignition spark

Check for lose wiring plugs check crank sensor and ignition modual or coil pack if these check out all good then have ecu checked by a specialist

What causes loss of excelleration while driving


It sounds like either your fuel pump has quit or your fuel filter is badly plugged. If you crank it for a while and do not smell gasoline back at the exhaust, your fuel pump has probably quit.

Probably lost either spark or fuel. First try some starting fluid into the throttle body (take off the big air boot) and see if the engine tries to run on it. If it does, you need to see if the fuel pump quit working. Best is to check fuel pressure-autozone and others rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. If pressure is not there with key on, likely a bad fuel pump. (you should hear the pump turn on for 2 seconds when turning the key to on, not start-this will pressurize the lines up to the fuel rail and to the injectors. Listen for the pump to turn on.)

If you have gas up to the engine, and the starting fluid caused nothing, check for spark. Buy a spark tester from a parts store and check for spark on 2 or 3 spark plug wires. If no spark, the ignition system went out. This is often due to the Crank Position Sensor or the Ignition Control Module.

Check for ignition spark when it quits could be an ignition coil problem ....when a bad coil gets hot it could fail until cooled off...

98 pathfinder has intermittent spark issue. start and drive for an hour+-, quits, at slow speed -25mph. sits for 30 min, then restarts and drive.replaced ignition coil, no help. waiting on ignition control...


Was there only one ignition coil to be replaced or did you replace all of them? How do you know its due to intermittent spark and not a fuel delivery issue? The ignition control module is a good next step if you have changed all of the coils and confirmed it is not a fuel issue.

I was driving 65mph when my car lost power. It would not restart. I have replaced the fuel pump filter and relay and it still won't start. Could it be the timing belt? Please help me figure this out. 1997...


See if the ignition still works by checking for spark on a spark plug wire. If no spark could be the ignition module or the crank position sensor.
I doubt if anything wrong with the timing belt-you would have heard a loud pop if it broke. Look inside the oil filler place on top- of the valve cover. When the engine is cranked, if belt is good you will see movement of the camshafts and the valves moving up and down.

Engine shut down during driving and wont restart


Three things cause an engine not to start. Lack of fuel, Lack of spark ( ignition ) and lack of compression. If you spray a little starting fluid into the aircleaner and it starts and theen quits, then you know it is a fuel problem if it won't start on starting fluid then it may be electrical. I am assuming the compression is good. If it was not then your engine would sound like a sewing machine when turning over. If it is electrical, there are quite a number of culprits, if it is fuel related suspect the pump or the power supply to the pump.

There could be many things to cause this problem.
Ideally when it quits is the best time to begin the diagnosis. First thing is to check to see if there is spark at the spark plugs when cranking and listen to hear the fuel pump run when you first cycle the ignition on.
But going on experience and what you have told me so far I would begin with ignition problems.
Because you mentioned it quit while driving and restarted after a cool off period it makes me think that an ignition part is failing when hot.
Engine heat and electrical current flow can heat electrical circuits, expand them, and go open circuit.
An ignition module, the pickup in the distributor or the ignition coil would be on my first checklist.

sounds like an Ignition control module,check for spark immediately after it dies.the spark should should be strong even up to a half of an inch gap

Mazda MX6 engine cuts out whilst driving


DEFINETLY THE IGNITION MODULE, WHEN THE "CHIP" HEATS UP, IT OPENS CIRCUIT THUS ALL POWER TO THE PLUGS IS LOST DUE TO AN INOPERATIONAL COIL.
