It is an automatic, made in Japan, sold in Australia, the gear selector works fine. It will select all the gears. I have tried it in low and high gear selector and I get the same results. The car will reverse, but the steering goes very heavy and the car only wants to reverse a short way, 8 to 10 metres before it starts to slow right down as if the car is grinding to a halt. I have checked all the fluid levels and everything looks ok.

A/T and steering, well that is engine power, and rpm of engine too low for steering pump to work and RPM of engine well below, TC stall speed. so step on the gas and go back wards, does RPM of the engine rise above 1500RPM? to diagnosis, all A/T cars find out who is failiing, ENGINE or A/T . reluctant to go backwards, so how high did RPM go... in any gear, the rpm must rise and speed must rise in direct proportions, or that is called slip, if too high RPM , but if too low that is called a weak engine. see? are you saying you cant go forward because car is parked at dead end and must go backwards first. thre are R D 1 2, are all 4 dead?

  • mitch4u2 Dec 31, 2013

Its not engine power, giving it plenty of power in reverse, all forward gears working ok. Engine does rise above 1500rpm.

As you reverse the car tightens as if the hand brake is coming on. Could it be a brake or drum problem ? I have checked the tension and release of the handbrake, all seems good.t

ok revers slips, , if you release the hand brake and car moves forward but not reveres. the rear brakes are not ICE frozen. The A/T has scan codes,. why not scan it., why not see if the TCM is reporting errors. any scan tool works, even the $9 tool. THE TCM has control of the shift solenoids, at all times. To diagnose this, check fues., then scan it, then check the soleniod lines, (logic) to the tranny, The FSM shows which line is 12v in reverse and not. this is the first check. this check proves if the TCM is bad, the tranny or the wire between them.... what if the shift lever is messing up, the PRNDL switch fails to go to "R

fails to go to "R" and TCM thinks you hit neutral. but TCM reports that, and tells you, all you have to do is look, connect anyscan tool to the OBD2, DLC 16pin connector in the dash and read it. (USA comments.)

im looking on alldata.com now for you, it shows the A/T .USA, and see what, i see 7 trans, solenoids, and the PRNLD swigth and the CAN buss dash disply that has a "R" lamp if the R lamp glows, the TCM SAW the Reverse command from the PRNDL switch, did this lamp glow.?? if yes, then the TRANY is ignoring it. SCAN it, yes, no, scan it twice...... you can rent a tool for near nothing.

the fsm on the A/T page has a stall test. you do that and it hits say (read yours) 2500rpm, this is the rear brakes set and testihng the transmission for slip. and if the rear brake ARE frozen with ice, the same thing happens, duh. jack up one rear wheel chocks front, and see if rear tire spins, by hand, no , BIINGO..... like i said , i dont know where you are parked, got to backup first to go forward.? see? the stall test is done with all brakes hard set. here is a short video this test. 5sec max test.

turns out the MAF test is same as stall test , using A/T as a parked car Load test (poor mans dynometer)

    _-__-___-_ Dec 31, 2013

see MAF/VAF here , watch it, see me hit 2000 RPM? that is normal with brakes set hard , driving not. it goes to any rpm , not arrested.

Manual or stick shift?????, USA car, or not?
is the lever stuck or
the lever goes to reverse but car wont move in reverse.
2003 series 100 LC
it can be 2 things, the TCM is not commanding Reverse
or the tranny refused to go there
if A/T (automatic trans) why not, plug in any scan tool
and read all those tranny errors.
that is first after checking fuses

I have a Landcruiser VX 100 series HDJ101 and its taking out smoke and a burning smell from the front tires brakes. I changed the pads and skimmed the discs but the problem is still there. I have been told...

On the surface, it sounds like you've got a frozen brake caliper. Apart from smoke and a burning smell, you would notice the truck pulling to 1 side or another. Another symptom of a frozen caliper is decreased performance and mileage.
