It's the ignition switch. I have the same problem with my car. I was driving it today when Windows and blinkers all of a sudden stopped working. When I put the car in park or neutral it make this weird screeching noise. A friend of mine came over, we started the car and removed the starter fuse. When we did this the car stopped making noise right away once in park or neutral. My friend fixes car pretty well and he told me that it's the ignition switch.

Accessory drive belt loose or belt tensioner failing. Accessories on drive belt not spinning freely check for freewheeling pulleys on belt path.

SOURCE: Screeching noise when I turn on my air conditioner or heater

It may just need to be adjusted (it sounds like it's too loose). If the belt isn't cracked or frayed, you should just have it tightened up a bit . If there are signs it is worn (cracked frayed) replace it.

SOURCE: When i put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk

Hi Ali,

This sounds like one or more of your motor/powerplant mounts is broken. Here is an easy test:

Have someone sit in the driver's sear with engine running and trans. in Park.
You stand in front with the hood open. Have them shift from Park to Reverse, and then Drive and back to Reverse and Park, taking time to stay in each gear and give some throttle while holding the brake pedal tight. This will rock or move the engine a certain amount as they shift through the gears and apply power lightly. It will move alot more violently with broken mounts.

If you have a clunking noise on Reverse shifts, you should be able reproduce this with the hood up and pinpoint the noise and/or sight the faulty motor mount with a friend's help. Good luck, I hope this puts you on the right track to fixing this annoying noise.

Sincerely, Tater Todd

SOURCE: Screeching noise coming from driver side tire

The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.

When I put my 98 Maxima in gear, it starts making a very loud noise under teh car. It will go into gear and move, but the noise will only stop if I put it in park or neutral.

If noise comes from transmission in D range -no drive. Then i thing of AT internal problem. If in D during driving then you have to check drivetrain, like axles or bearings. or AT.

I have a 99 Ford Superduty 7.3 Diesel. It is making a really bad grinding/screeching sound just after it starts and is warming up. It wouldn't ******* off all the way even after the key was turned

indicates that the starter motor is stuck in the ring gear
possibly faulty starter relay or starter solenoid
pull the starter as the pinion over ride clutch is probably damaged ( noise ) and have the start circuit and relay checked
have the starter bench tested for serviceability by an accredited auto electrician

Get loud screeching noise from front of motor when first start the car. if put electrics (lights indicators) on it gets worse, after a minute or two it stops, could it be alternator?

The problem would be a drive loose belt or defective belt tensioner. You have not provide make model or year so that is about as much as I can say.

I have a 1990 240 DL volvo and there is a loud screeching noise when I turn the A.C. on and turn corners. If I turn the A.C. off the noice stops. What is it, and how do I fix it?

Your drive belt tension may be set too loose or the belt itself is going bad. If you have a spring loaded tensioner, that may have weakened as well. Bottom line is that when belt is not tight enough, the normal load from the compressor added to the extra load on the pump when turning causes the belt to slip (making noise) Eventually, it may begin making noise when started as the alternator demands more power in order to work (you likely have heard cars with this problem in parking lots...loud screech right after starting) Wish I remembered which method they use to restore tension on yours butyou can easily get that info in any inexpensive manual (they may even allow you just to browse it without buying)

Good Luck!!!

Loud screeching noise coming from car after stops.

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.
