Check the obvious first beacuse this doesnt really seem llike a problem with the key , if the key needs resetting you will not be able to start the car with that key. has the battery in the key fob
been low or been replaced recently

, make sure all the doors are properly shut includind the bootlid , as most modern cars cenral locking systems does the lock unlock if a door is only partially shut,
resetting a key is not a diy job . the key needs to go to a locksmith or peugeot dealer .

let us know how you get on

A 'lock then unlock' is due to a 'partially open door' stopping the central lock from engaging .. even if all the doors are actually closed, there is an indication on the dash panel which door it's not happy with .. could try slamming it shut (or start looking for a loose wire)

Peugeot 406 key fob not operating central locking

406 FOB / PLIP PROGRAMMING :

The 406 deadlocking remote control has specific button controls, and if the vehicle has two controls, one is set as primary and the other as secondary.

When replacing the Plip, a Primary or Secondary Plip are different part numbers and must be ordered as required. The white label inside the Plip is labelled PRIM or SEC.

1. Turn the Ignition switch ON.

2. Press the large Plip key button (Primary Plip)

3. Within 10 seconds press the large Plip key button (Secondary Plip)

4. If there is one remote, press the Primary plip button twice.

5. Turn ignition OFF.

6. Test Plip's for correct operation.
NOTE : On some 406 models, Plips cannot be re-synchronised unless the battery has been disconnected for 1 minute

the car has dead locks via the central locking, it is very common on this car, take the drivers side door card trim off and look to see if the motors are connected correctly.

hope this helps. most likely you will have to change the drivers side motor.

307 central locking fault

If you have replaced the battery and the ecu wasn't in sleep mode, then you'll lose the synchronisation between immobiliser and fob. go to peugeot dealer or call out a car locksmith who then can reprogram your fob with car ecu. I have read the method in internet but not sure what the steps were. you can google it may be you'll find it.
