Trailer wiring

Trailer wiring uses the fuses for the car lights. Turn signal, running ans brake lights. Some plugs also charge the trailer battery if so wired. Check the ground wire for a good body connection. This wire often gets overlooked and can stop all trailer lights if it fails.

Need a wiring diagram for the trailer lights on a 2006 F150. I have power at the relay and fuse for the trailer park lights but nothing at the bumper plug

Are you certain you dont have power at the plug? If you have a test light verify first what power you do and do not have at the plug. A "trailer emulator" is a reasonably priced tool available from Tekonsha through most auto parts stores and can save you a lot of time but a test light will work with a little more patience. Looking at the plug with the lid open, the top two blades are tail lights and 12v charge, the left and right blades are left and right turn, the bottom two blades are trailer brake and ground. center is reverse. Let me know when you test power and we can move forward. Be SURE your ground is good while using your test light. BARE METAL is required

Toyota hybrid-want to run a wire to charge my trailer battery. Where do I pick up the power?

on your trailer plug look for a blue wire that is for aux power to charge trailer battery when your parked diconnect plug or it will drain car battery, also look in fuse box for empty holder marked aux or trailer you may have to put a fuse in it, did you put in trailer plug or was it factory ?you may have to run your own power wire if you do put i fuse in line for protection.good luck larry hope this helped or gave you some ideas.

2000 Ford Expodition no power to factory installed trailer plug

Found this problem one other time. For some reason it was the trailer tow battery charge relay located in the power distribution box in your engine compartment. It will be in the number 302 position in the box (see diagram below) You may also want to check the 30 amp fuse in the number 101 position as well. That is the fuse for the trailer tow battery charge. Not sure if it will turn out the same way as it did when I came across that problem before with another vehicle but it may be a start anyway. i hope this helped in some way and I hope you can see my fuzzy picture. Good luck.

No 12 volt power source going to the trailer to charge trailer battery and lights - 7 pin trailer plug - need an answer fast - on the road!

Sorry you are having trouble.
The normal for 7 pin conectors is
Red=Aux power
Purple= back up lights or hydraulics
Green=right stop and turn
Yellow=left stop and turn
White=ground
Blue=electric brake
Brown=side markers

The red is fused so follow this line to the source and/or the fuse

I hope this helps

1997 Ford F250HD 7.3 PSD. When i plug in my trailer lights the running lights on the trailer are always on.

The power lead on truck or trailer are in wrong spot. So it is feeding power to your parking lights all the time. Open plug on trailer and move wire one turn counter clockwise.

Trailer wiring 2008 Trailblazer SS

Sounds like the vehicle came with towing package. There should be 2 large wires and a smaller one. The blue "should" be trailer brake feed. The other large wire, usually the black, would be 12 volt power for trailer interior lights and battery charge. The red should be a smaller wire and it is the back up light wiring to the trailer. Most trailers don't use this wire, except for brake lock out on some boat trailers with hydraulic brakes. Also see http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. All of this is used for5, 7, or 6 pin plugs.

Batt wont charge on my trailer from my 2009 f-150

Here's a wiring diagram

If you look at the illustration, it shows the center is an auxiliary power source. If there's nothing hooked on the tow vehicle's plug, you may need to run a wire to the switched side of the starter solenoid. Make sure you fuse it with an inline fuse. Make sure your wire in sufficient gauge and your fuse is ample to protect all your circuitry. you may even want to put a 20a circuit breaker inline and then run from cable that at least matches or is a gauge size higher than the trailer's aux power cabling size..
