Question about 1992 Toyota Corolla

1992 Toyoto Corolla

Hear grinding of axel when making left turn.
Was told it needs replacing. Need a fair
price estimate to know what to expect when I go looking for a fixer. Car in good running
condition - 130,000 miles 4-door.

I had 2 different mechanics look at it.Both said it was
the axle needing replacement. Both estimates seemed high so my question is still "what is a fair price estimate ?"

Could be the axle. Could also just be a brake rotor problem. Giving an estimate just on a description of a noise is hard because if it is grinding, it could be bad enough that many parts could be affected by it, depending on how bad it failed and how long it has been driven like that. Your best action would be to get at least 2 different mechanics to give you an estimate and be willing to even pay them for an hour to get a good look at the problem.

The cost has to do with how long it takes to replace the axle. Some vehicles require removing the ball joints and lots of finicky parts. An estimate on the Corolla could be anywhere from 2-4 hours, plus parts. My range would be from 200 to 400, depending on what else falls apart when it is worked on. Parts on that car have been rusting for 17 years.

Is it safe to say that my CV axel is bad?

No, sounds like the transfer case is shot. Your is an all time all wheel drive. It has a clutch pack in the T case. They go bad. They will cause the tire to skip and jump, not the CV axle. Pricey fix and no fun to remove. You can remove the front drive shaft to get rid of the skipping until you can replace it.

Need a ballpark estimate to repair a broken front axel on a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Or to replace it, if it can't be fixed.

I just did one for a neighbor, the axle goes for about $125, labor is about 2-2 1/2 hours, and you should get an alignment-around $275-$325 is fair, I'd think.

Your brake light switch is stuck. It is located under the dash, near the top of the brake pedal. Replace it with a new one.

I have a 1990 Toyoto Corolla with 1.6 EFI engine. I can't find the oil pressure sending switch. I need to change it as my oil pressure light on the dashboard flashes when I stop.

OK, first check your Idle and make sure you are within range. The sending unit is on the front left half side of the engine. FYI the oil pressure switch on this car has changed it is made out of a new rubber so if you need this one do not buy OEM replacement the original had a weak diaphragm make sure it is the updated one ask.

Probably the wheel bering. If your going down the road and turn to the passenger side and it gets worse, its the drivers side bering and visa versa.
