Question about 2001 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

2002 Pontiac Montana won't start "sometimes"

It usually starts and runs fine. But 3 or 4 times after driving it long distance or on a hot day, it would not start back up unti it sat and rested, cooled down, whatever. It wasn't overheating or anything. Just noticed it was on hot days.

run the fault codes and look for faulty cam/ crank position sensor as this is indicated by the backfire/hard start and lower idle RPM. Check that battery terminals are clean and tight..

My 2002 Pontiac Montana gets to hot in a short distance. I don't know what it is I have an idea it's either the thermostat or a blown head gasket not sure which one. So which one is it?

You would need to figure out if the thermostat is stuck closed, or not.
Most mechanics would either replace it or take it out and run the engine without it as a test. If the engine still overheats with the thermostat out, it could be a faulty water pump, restriction in the radiator, or other problems.
A blown head gasket should leak coolant out on the ground or into the engine.

My 1999 Pontiac Montana starts fine, and then sometimes dies

The starting /keep running issue is probably a slow IAC (idle air control)Next time turn the key on,wait 3 or 4 seconds then start,if it keeps running after that wait time everytime,it most likely is the IAC,,,,,,no big deal.

My 2002 Pontiac Montana has issues starting in hot weather. If it hasnt been driving for a while it starts and runs fine but the once you stop somewhere then theres a chance it wont start again. Actually...

check your temperature if it goes up quite fast you have a problem with your radiator or water pump, but if it is ok check your battery and alternator...

My montana will start one time , run all day , turning it off and re-starting.The next day it will not start. There is lots of spark. wiring harness is good. can`t hear the fuel pump when it won`t start.

You should try cleaning the throttle body - remove the air box from the throttle body spray in cleaner and then work it in with an old toothbrush. I had the same issue with my 2005 and this fixed it right up.

Possible overheating, 2004 pontiac montana

Its definitly a bad reading, you would know if your vehicle is overheating, you can usually smell it right away.I would say its your temperature gauge sending unit is defective, check the wires to see if they are well connected or broken. ask a backyard mechanic for assistance.
