yes , i am sure you checked for leaks on the rack at the boots on both ends near the wheels. if none try adding a power steering conditioner to the pump . drain the fliud from the reservoir first by taking off one of the hoses the more conditioner the better. this may not work but it is an easy and cheap way first. there is also a relief valve in many pumps that might be stuck not allowing pressure to build.

Have you thought that the new pump may not produce enough pressure, I have been involved in may repairs where a new part was the issue.

SOURCE: power steering light

There are sensors that control steering effort (variable assist) and also valving in some cases, one of these has a problem, I would have the system tested to see what the fault is before it developes a problem u can feel.

SOURCE: Type of power steering fluid for 2001 toyota camry

Power steering fluid - Dexron 2 or 3 automatic transmission fluid. Yes transmission fluid. And while you are at it check the fluid level in the transmission.
Since you got the hood up, check the brake fluid, wiper fluid, radiator fluid, battery fluid, oil level.

Check the power steering belt, it may be slipping or broken, check the power steering fluid in the reservoir under the hood.

Steering wheel problems

the belt is loose.
the pump is bad
the fluid is full of air. read the FSM
read the steps to purge air from P/S system.
so why was it low this fluid, it should not have been.
my guess you mean its hard to turn, no power assist.
when P/S fails it still works 100% manually , just harder.
is it singing to you, that is air bubbles, in the loop.

2004 TOYOTA AVALON HARD OR JERKIE STEERING

If the power steering fluid is ok then just about the only thing that this can be is a defective power Rack and Pinion steering gear assembly. Since this part is very expensive and a front end align is required if it is replaced have a front end shop or the local Toyota dealer confirm my suspicions.

Was told by dealer power steering rack needs replacing. I am not having any problems with my steering nor I have I seen any leaks. How do I know when something is wrong with the power steering rack?

  • Well, you would have a leak or troubles steering. I am curious as to why someone would recommend you replace something when you are having no problems with it. What was the reason the dealer offered you that information in the first place? Were you having an issue of some sort? In any case, if your not leaking fluid and you are having no issues steering and turning I say don't worry about it. If it was my car I wouldn't.

Regards, Tony

Turning to the left hearing a rattle noise in the 97 toyota avalon ...went to the shop and they changed the power steering fluid and that was good for awhile ...but restarted the car and have the same...

If that rattle sound more like a whining the problem is a leak, that is why the problem went away when they replace the power steering fluid.

Power steering filled with the wrong product and is causing problem with steering

You MUST have the power steering flushed and the correct fluid installed, failure to do this right away can result in permanent damage to the power steering components

Windsheild washer not working in toyota avalon 02

Looks like the washer motor has failed. Remove the lower plactic trim under the washer bottle & check to see if the connector is plugged in to the motor. Also check to see if there is power to the motor with the switch depressed. If you have power, you need a washer motor. Common failure if the washer fluid freezes once. Ice gets inside the motor & expands, breaking the internal housing and ruins the motor.
