SOURCE: need to transfer power steering

Run back to the parts store, or an Autozone, or O'Reilly's anyway they have tools for rent to do just what your trying to do. You have to have a pulley puller to remove those, guessing you don't want to buy one for $100-$200 so just rent one and they give you all your money back when you return it. Good luck hope this helps.

Steering is jerky, like the wheel locks momentarly

That could be a number of things. The power steering pump could be low on fluid due to a leak somewhere. The belt that drives the pump could be slipping. There could be bad bearings in the steering column. There could be an internal leak in the steering gear. I have even seen bad ball joints binding and causing similar symptoms. The problem simply needs to be diagnosed.

I have a 2006 malibu and the power steering light comes on and it is hard to steer. please help. Thanks

If the power steering pump is low on fluid, The belt is broke or came off, or the pump just stopped working, it would cause those symptoms.
First check the belt.
If the belt is there, check the fluid level in the pump, if its low add some PSF and check again.
if the fluid level is up to factory standards and you have went through this check list,
the pump is bad.

Why would a power steering pump overheat changed power steering pump changed rack and pinion

How long ago were the parts changed? When power steering components are replaced the air must be purged from the system. When you say "overheat" - what are the symptoms? Burned smell? Bubbles in the fluid?

What symptoms does a Dodge Caravan have when it needs steering fluid repair of some type?

Hi sandav,

In response to your question, fluid can be low and more may need to be added. Any repair would be on the way it got low, fix the leak.

If it is low, steering at slower speeds will be difficult. An upper body workout. .

If you are having difficulties, post the symptoms you are experiencing. Might be able to help

Power steering making loud noise/harder to turn wheel

Hello, from the sounds of it your power steering pump is going bad. Two things to check is one, pull off the cap and smell the fluid to see if it smells burnt. If it does you will need to change the power steering pump. Another thing to check is to make sure the belt is good and snug that runs the pump, the noice could be the belt slipping. You may need to tighten it or change it depending on how it looks. I'd check the belt first as that is the cheaper fix.

check for leak in power steering hose by taking cap off the power steering resevoir and than starting car, wait 1 min, turn wheel all the way left and than all the way right. do this about 5-8 times slowly over 3 min or so. turn car off, than observe fluid in resevoir. if you see lots of bubbles after 30 seconds or so, you have a leaky hose. air in the system makes the steering pump groan and moan and vibrate. if the pump is not bad, than change the hose and clamp. just fixed mine yesterday.  also buy a quart of 11s pentosin power steering fluid (green)...
